What are good ideas to do this summer for kids?

Watching four kids over the summer, cheap, long lasting ideas?

  • I am watching four kids over the summer, 6,8,10 and 12 year old. 3 boys and 1 girl. I will be living with the kids while watching them. What are some things I could do with them? Also keep in mind that gas is going to be $5/$6, so I'm trying to do as little bit of driving as possible. Thanks in advance!

    I would not focus my attention on entertaining the kids. They will entertain themselves - playing with their toys, playing outside, watching tv if that is okay... You are there to watch them, not to entertain them. Obviously a trip to a park, a swimming pool, a picnic, a hike...are going to be fun and you should do something like that every week or two...but these kids don't normally have a games master scheduling fun activities every hour of the day and they don't need one now.

I agree with the first reponse but maybe schedule in some time to teach them how to do things? They are old enough to learn how to cook simple things for lunch/dinner-maybe once a week choose a couple of recipes together to make that week and teach them how to make it? Take them to the dollar store and have them pick out their own notebook and keep a Diary of Summer of 2012? Make a scavenger hunt for them to find things outside (while youre getting other things done)? I would let them figure out their own entertainment and keep some surprise activities on the back burner for when they are bored to the point of picking on each other. And even then, you can teach them about proper debating techniques! Look up recipes for homemade clay, oobleck,etc.

You should just find out what they like to do for fun. Then take them to walmart or some where to buy them some board games or just play around with them. Keep them active and outside sometimes.
