Can I work in France without a visa if I'm British?

Im an Australian with british ancestry wanting to work in England but without a working visa?? help?

  • Before i left Australia, I did not have time to apply for my uk passport. im now living in France, but need to pick up some work in england as soon as i can. Is it possible to obtain a working visa when i land in the uk or is it a must that I get my uk passport or apply for a working visa in Australia? I hope its not too late, and that I can get my mum or dad to apply for my passport in their name in Aus and send it over to me? Is that possible?

  • Answer:

Provided you have the required documentation, you can apply for your UK passport in France. If you're 18 or older, your parents won't be able to get a passport for you. If you want to work in the UK, you must either have a UK passport or a work visa before you land in the UK. If a passport is too difficult in the short term, you should be able to get a Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS = working holiday) visa fairly quickly: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workingintheuk/tier5/youthmobilityscheme/eligibility/whocanapply/ YMS visa
