Settlement visa requirements?

  • hi, im british. My husband is on a spouse visa at the moment, this runs out march 2010, then we have to apply for a settlement visa. I have heard that now you cant apply for a settlement visa? that the spouse visa has to be renewed and have to do this until the person has been in Uk for so many years? is this correct? Also when we apply for the next visa what documents are needed. We had quite a struggle getting the spouse visa, we were apart for 7months,he was in africa me here in uk. is this going to happen again? Thanks

    As far as I'm aware, your spouse visa is valid for 2 years and after that period, if you are still together, your husband can apply for ILR (indefinite leave to remain). If that is successfully granted he can then apply for a British passport after another year (3 years in total). Haven't heard of any recent rule changes - but haven't heard of a settlement visa either! Check that you are looking at the correct Visa information.

there is change in any rules as of today.it may change by the end of this year. one thing i can guarantee whatever the changes, u don't have to live separate.because u both will be renewing or making changes will be together. after 5 years of stay u can apply for settlement. as now foor ILR u need 3 months bank statements,3 months salary slip,2 photos,employer letter,very simple.but this will change before march 2010.so pls stop worrying now itself and wait and see whats the new rules.
