Requirements are needed for a foreign nurse to work in the u.s.?

  • my cousin is a mexican nurse who works at a good hospital. she wants to come to the u.s. to work. what are the steps and or requirements that she must meet to work in this country? she wants to work in the state of texas. thanx for ur time

  • Answer:

She would need to contact the BON in Texas and apply for a license. They will assess her education and experience and decide if she meets the requirements to write the NCLEX.If she passes that she will be granted a license. The biggest challenge will be getting a Green Card so she can work legally in the US.It takes about 5 years.

First of all she must have a job offer at US, so she will be able to apply for a job visa in Mexico. Another option will be, come to US as student, get a nurse certification and then change your student visa for job visa. Another option, will be a kind of scam.

There are no such thing as work visas for foreign nurses anymore. Any agency that claims otherwise is a scam.
