How to extend the student visa in Australia?

Can I extend my student visa in Australia?

  • I got Australian student visa with condition 8534 (No further stay). Many people told me that I can't extend my visa in Australia. If I want to study further I have to go back to my country and reapply, however, I think that I can extend my visa in Australia coz when I went to immigration website, it says you can't apply for other types of visas except a Student visa with Permission to Work. I mean, I don't know who should I listen too. Some university websites also stated that if your visa has this condition (8534) you have to go back to your country to re-apply. Please help me.

  • Answer:

If you are an Assessment Level 1 or 2 student or if you are AL3 or 4 student and your required course is 10 months or longer, you can apply for another Student visa - all Student visas these days have Permission to Work, but that is the only visa for which you can apply. http://www.immi.gov.au/students/visa-conditions-students.htm Student visa conditions
