  First, Cook County is a subdivision of STATE government. State and federal law enforcement operate in two separate systems. This is why we have entirely different court systems in which one person can be tried for the same criminal offense in two systems. Furthermore, the 10th Amendment gives states' rights. The Constitution does not say states must allow federal officers into local jails. There may be case law that addresses this issue, but Cook County is challenging this case law. Cook County has the right to do that. Cook County is not telling illegals ICE won't get them. Cook County cannot tell ICE how to enforce immigration statutes. ICE has other options. Cook County is also just one of over 3000 counties, although it is a more populated one. Cook County also does not tell illegals they are friends. This is absurd. Cook County is doing what it does because ICE and Homeland Security don't want to reimburse the counties a fair amount of the cost required to hold illegals on detainers issued by ICE. The federal government wants things done without paying for it. What else is new. Besides, Cook County is holding these illegal aliens as inmates for other offenses. If they were friends, why would Cook County hold them at all? Don't get confused by the distorted comments of others on this issue.
