How can an Irish citizen relocate to the USA?

Any places in the USA a 9 mos Pregnant Permanent Resident can rent?

  • I am a USA citizen, by blood and soil. My wife, 9 months pregnant, is a foreign Permanent Resident here. Every place is denying us, because I have been working abroad. Now I have no income, as I just got off a plane from Asia! They want a job making 3 times the rent. They also want recent USA rental references. My wife does not have a SS card yet. They said they can't rent to people without SSNs, as they need to do a credit check. Many foreigners don't have one! They have a TIN. An SSN is not required in America. Besides, we applied, but you can't get one the same day. Also, if you have been in America for hours, with no SSN, you have NO credit to check! Further, being 9 months pregnant, many places say they will not rent to pregnant women. How is this now legal in America? On top of this, charging us $100 for every application, we will be broke soon! Why don't they tell you up front that they wont rent to you? My credit is good, and I have a successful co-signer. They also said that they can't rent to children. They said since my wife is a minor, they wont rent to us. I had my own place when I was 15! How can a 31 year old not get one? How could you say that if someone works abroad, you wont rent to them? Or any of the other stipulations? Also, I've been denied in the past for medical bills that 15 years old! Do we really have to pay $70 a night a crack hotel until I can land a job locally? Can I use a crack hotel as rental credit? This is in our home of California, but we are willing to relocate. Need a place for baby! PS-No government or private organization has any help for us. Even with a savings and a wallet full o' greenbacks!

  • Answer:

OK if she is a LEGAL PR then she would have a green card and her SSN....so that bit does not add up from the get go. How OLD is she that they are refusing to rent to her??? The places can refuse to rent for any reason so long as it is not based off religion race or colour, been up the duff is NOT a protected species so you have no recourse on that score. You did not pay your bills in the past that is no ones fault but your own, did you think they where going to fade away while you was out the country. And if you can NOT afford to rent a place then out of interest who is paying for your child to be born??? As you also state you are US born blood and soil then SURELY you have a relative, a friend some one that can put you up for a short while. Find it odd that they even allowed her to fly at that late a stage of pregnancy.!!!

They see you as a risk. This is nothing new, they run credit checks on people all the time. They need a SS # to do a check. The apts are within their rights. Why would they want to rent to someone with no income.Hotel is not a credit reference, when you only been there a short period of time. They will not rent you an apt with a minor wife. This is 2012 get with times.

When I arrived in the U.S., I did have a SS number but no credit card history, of course not, being fresh off the boat. I found my first apartment in Studio City, California, within 24 hours. I told the manager the truth: I said: I just moved here from Europe, if you check my credit, you will not find any entry, but here's my bank account statement from Bank of America, and if you want, I will pay you 6 months rent in advance. Piece of cake. Moral of the story: a landlord can rent out to whomever they choose. If they don't want smokers, pets, kids . . . there's nothing you can do to change their mind. If you are a U.S. citizen, just be upfront and find a landlord who will rent to you, perhaps with a higher security deposit. There are plenty of apartments for rent; you just need to do a lot of footwork until you find something you like, can afford, and are able to rent or lease.
