Are asylum seekers a social problem to the UK?
-
NOTE: Asylum seekers are not Illegal migrants.

Answer:
nice to see so many ill-informed and "little britain" answers are alive here. No asylum seekers are NOT a social problem in the UK, this is a distraction from the Bigger issues. People living in poverty and with few social organisations which will build a classless society. The UK was losing population every year until the last 2 years, the increase has been to migrant workers from the EU and not from asylum seekers. Asylum has always been something which this country provided as a humanitarian society, hence hugenots, Jewish and those fleeing oppression would think of the UK as a safe haven, vietnamese boat people and Kurdish groups have all made the journey here due to politicalunrest and genocide in their own country. We should celebrate diversity and work towards accommodation, this does not mean everyone needs to drink beer and eat fish and chips!

Regardless of where they came from and by which route (legal or illegal) there are too many foreigners here, we are a small country with limited resourses for housing, jobs and benefits. We should come first but sadly, we don't any more.
note - asylum seekers are illegal immigrants when their asylum application has failed and they won't go home.

People who see asylum seekers as a social problem are the social problem. Various structural problems can arise in the assimilation process of successful asylum seekers such as knowledge of English, suitable education and training etc and the finding of appropriate employment, but we should not forget that these people and their diverse cultural backgrounds, the skills and knowledge they bring, are something we should celebrate in most cases. Sadly the country is full of racists who are quite happy to have pretty birds and butterflies in their gardens that were born in Africa, for example, but would be mortified at the sight of human beings from Africa there. The Government isn't much better.

i think the fact that we have so many foreigners over here now causes unrest especially when the foreigners are unwilling to interact with us they expect to live here by the rules of their own country dont want to abide by our rules and want to change our laws - we have far too many people in this country full stop so yes foreigners are draining our system thus causing a social problem when there arent enough houses etc., for us brits.

Most of them come here to work, and they have religous beliefs..... Which means they often live to better morals than most of us natives..... I think they are less of a problem than the wasters that want all the benefits this country has to offer without pulling their fingers out to get it.... Asylum seekers are humans just like the rest of us, so i don't think they are a problem to the UK.....

I may be wrong here but I thought all asylum seekers were held in "centres" whilst their applications were processed. If I am correct then they cannot be a social problem as they are not in our communities, but they are a financial drain on the country. If I am not correct then they are a social problem in as much as, where are they living, who is keeping track of them, how are their daily needs being met and who is paying for it? I also dispute the fact that they are genuine asylum seekers in as much as there is a duty on asylum seekers to take refuge in the first safe country they reach. Not bypassing all the safe ones to get to the one which has the most lenient welfare system. As an issue this cannot be logically disputed.
