Can I be a dual citizen?

Can a naturalized US borne citizen apply as a dual US/RP citizen or must you have be borne in the Philippines?

• I was borne to former Philippine citizen who later became naturalized US citizens and I was wondering if I could apply for dual US and Philippine citizenship. I plan on retiring to a small town in the Bicol region and would like to run for a political office. I believe I must be a Philippine citizen to do this and I am more than willing to give up my US citizenship for this purpose but must take small steps in doing this due to that nature of my work and its requirement that the employee must be a US citizen. I will have to check to see about being a dual citizen and it if counts against my employment.

  are your parents both of Filipino descent? by the time you were born were they already an American Citizen? Read RA 9552 its about the dual citizenship law. and ARTICLE IV of Constitution CITIZENSHIP Section 1. The following are citizens of the Philippines: 1.Those who are citizens of the Philippines at the time of the adoption of this Constitution; 2.Those whose fathers or mothers are citizens of the Philippines; 3.Those born before January 17, 1973, of Filipino mothers, who elect Philippine Citizenship upon reaching the age of majority; and 4.Those who are naturalized in the accordance with law. as for your plan to run in the public office, you have to determine first what position and what are the requirements for citizenship coz there is a difference bet the natural born and naturalized filipino citizen which can bar you from running in the post. goodluck:)
