What do you think will be the future course the United States of America will take?
-
Will we become more like Europe or will we continue to develop as an isolated Western culture? Will we continue to respect the individual or will we subvert individual rights to elevate our society? Will religion continue to flourish or will it be lost as our culture develops? Will we remain Capitalist or will Socialism prevail? If you are dissatisfied with the course the country is taking how would you change that course to something better?

Answer:
It's 3:00 a.m. and decided to get up. I'm awake after only about 1 1/2 hours sleep; have insomnia and sometimes it's difficult to deal with - just a preface to alert you that my response may not be completely a coherent one. I count 5 questions you've asked, all related of course; and choose to take them one by one: 1) I tend to think that we will proceed pretty much on the same course: continue to develop as an isolated Western culture. 2) the latter: we will subvert individual rights to elevate our society(attempt to; but would predict we'll be unsuccessful). 3) I don't agree with you in that religion is flourishing here now; only in relatively small pockets of our culture; and as a major force, I don't see it ever again being a major force as it use to be. 4) We will remain on a course similar to that of the past 50-60 years or so; continue to develop a mixture of the two: Capitalism and Socialism. 5) A few years ago I was concerned with the course this country had began to set out on as I perceived it: one of gross and callous GREED, with the majority of the population caring little for the unfortunate amongst it. I see our form of government no longer relevant to its time; Washington is in shambles - almost totally corrupt and incompetent, and I see no hope whatsoever for a realistic, meaningful turn around; even given the efforts of our current President. Our economy has fallen thru the floor. The national debt has become so staggering, that there's no hope for recovering out former status as a great economic power. My best guess is that the economic center of gravity will now pass to countries probably like those of China and Brazil. But stepping back and viewing the long history of civilization's evolution, I have concluded it shouldn't and really doesn't surprise me: we are after all, what we are; and the choices we've made along the way have been determinative. And I don't really care to attempt to formulate any proposal to change the course of our country. Being a yogi, I'm learning to just set back and reside within the sublime indifference it affords me; caring little about what happens to this country now in any respect. Alberich

The course of the future of this country looks mighty bleak! In all my years, this is the first time I have ever had cause to fear for the foundation and stability of this nation. I perceive nothing good will come of it. I think we will see the downfall of this great United States of America. I see this country heading in the direction of Europe, yes. We may respect others among the common good but, big government will destroy all we have had since this country was founded. Respect for life period, will be gone. Only the young, healthy, ambitious and intelligent will have any chance to succeed. Religion will not stand with this kind of government. I see people secretly congregating, much like China. Socialism (Marxism) is coming! I really think it is a bit too late to alter it's course. :( Furthermore, with Iran's threats going unheeded by this administration and Israel promising to move ahead with or without us, we will likely be seeing a major war in the very near future. Whether we remain allies or not, we will be drawn into it and the course of this country will dramamtically change, simultaneously.

..hopefully it just doesnt include anyone who thinks the Constitution is out of date. We dont need ANY type of socialism. ...we already have a free country with happy birthday and christmas presents to help. and after that, its plain old good work. ...something some fat arrogant gov officials have no clue of, and have been bought out to lose sight of.

I have the feeling that it will become a big beer and hamburger stand . The way things are going, the usa are paying NO ATTENTION to educatiion. All they care about is hating immigrants more than never The foreign professionals who come here are not well used. They are forced to work sweeping floors, frying potatoes, etc China is now becoming the most important country

ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT I BELIEVE
Snuggles
well with all the immigration (legal or otherwise) we will become a third world nation by the end of the century
Not sure what all that means, but I think we'll still be the greatest country in the world! If you don't like it, get out!
