ILR VS ILE UK IMMIGRATION?
-
below is a paste that seems to answer half my query ie Ile is the same as ilr but my wifes ILE has an expiry date on it , and I worry that should we go away to europe for a week and my wife presents this at immigration we will have a problem as we arrived before it expired but now a year later want to go for a break and its now out of date----- No. Truth Dealer has given you the correct answer. The expiry date on ILE visa means that if you have not entered by that date you would have to apply again (for ILE). Once you are in the UK, it is the same as ILR and no further application is needed. After five years residence you can apply for naturalisation as a UK citizen if you wish.

Answer:
An expiry date on the ILE must be entered since the overseas visa system does not enable to produce a sticker without an expiry date. UK Border Agency officers are advised to enter the expiry date of the applicant's passport in the ILE. However holders of an ILE can still travel. I quote Entry Clearance Basics ECB09: Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) and Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) Applicants who are granted Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) at a visa issuing Post should have no time restrictions on their stay in the UK, that is, they can stay indefinitely. ILE carries the same entitlement as 'Indefinite Leave to Remain' (ILR) which is issued by the UK Border Agency to those who have already travelled to the UK. Anyone who has ILE does not have to apply for ILR when in the UK. Although indefinite leave, by definition, will not expire, the ECO is unable to issue a visa to those who meet the criteria for ILE without putting a 'validity date' on the visa. In cases of ILE the 'validity date' on the visa should match the expiry date on the passport. When the applicant gets a new passport, they can apply to UK Border Agency for a transfer of conditions into their new passport. They do not need to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).
