I want to emigrate to Australia, but my job is not on the required skill/job list. Is there any other way?
-
I have no one to sponsor me, I want to move to Australia off my own back. So I have to have a job within the skill sets that they require. I also do not hold any qualifications. If it really comes down to it then I understand I'll have to get a qualification, which I'm fine with, but I do want to leave England as soon as possible! So if anyone knows of anyways around it (not including marrying etc) then that'd be a great help. Would securing a job with a retail firm over there help me in anyway?

Answer:
There is more than one list of occupations that are eligible for Australian work visas but a basic requirement is that they must be skilled (retail doesn't count as skilled) and you must have appropriate qualifications for that occupation plus relevant work experience. The lists are: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule1.pdf The Skilled Occupations List (SOL). For permanent, independent and relative sponsored, points tested visas http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule1-2.pdf Schedule 2 is the list from which the State Migration Plans (SMPs) for each of Australia’s 8 states and territories are taken but your occupation must also appear on the SMP for at least one of the states/territories. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/176/nom-state-terr.htm The migration sites for each of Australia’s 8 states and territories – see each state site for its SMP. For permanent and provisional state sponsored points tested visas http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2011L01228 The Employer Nomination Scheme Occupations List (ENSOL). For permanent, employer sponsored visas with no points test. http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2011L00246 The 457 occupations list. For temporary employer sponsored visas with no points test. This visa can only lead to Permanent Residence if your occupation is also on the ENSOL. The only work visa that has no list of eligible occupations is an employer sponsored Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (Subclass 119/857) visa (see under Employer Sponsored Visas on the Visas link. The work must be in a designated regional area in a skilled occupation requiring at least diploma level or equivalent qualifications. Visas: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/ Skill assessment is required before you can apply for any points tested visa and is also required for some employer sponsored visas. http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/ Skills assessment – select your occupation from the alphabetical list. If you don't qualify for skilled immigration as above, the ONLY way to get an immigration visa is as the partner of an Australian citizen or PR.

It will be very difficult (if not impossible) for an employer to prove that they cannot hire an Australian citizen or permanent resident for a retail job and need you to fill that vacancy. If you are under 30 try the working holiday visa and research your options once you are there.

If you do not have experience and qualifications in a profession on one of the profession lists - the only other way is marrying. Securing a job is not sufficient - you have to secure a job in one of the listed professions and the company sponsoring has to fulfill their own criteria.

with out formal skills and experienced in a skilled occupation your only chance is marrying an australian but be warned your marriage will be looked at very carefully by immigration so don't marry just for a visa
