Will the nanny get a remake?

Immigrate to Ireland: Best job to get work permit: nanny, service sector etc ?

  • I live in Canada, and I want to immigrate to Ireland (crazy i know with the recession, but its just something i feel i need to do). What woudl be the best way to get in on a work permit/apply for citizenship? My cousins wife immigrated from the phillipines (her and some friends). She was a nanny, and then home cae aide. Before finally getting access to canadian funding to go to school. Would there be much call for nanny/service sector work in ireland? My background is bachelor of arts - with teaching ESL overseas roughtly 2 years . From looking online it seems theres job vacancies /postings in business/IT/engeinnering and health care. But as I dont have that background i'm wondering if some service sector jobs/nanny positions might exist. As i have known many people over the years that came to Canada and started in those posoitions on work permits from phillipines.

  • Answer:

There are no jobs in Ireland. Irish people are emigrating in droves because there is no work. You are very unlikely to be granted a work permit when Irish people are jobless.

First, there is no provision for unskilled nannies, home health aides, etc, to obtain temporary employment visas to Ireland. It is not any qualification for immigration, either. Neither is your bachelors degree. Furthermore, Ireland had its economic meltdown several years ago now, and Irish are desperate to find jobs elsewhere. There sure are no jobs for you! And no visa category you qualify for, even on a temporary basis. Forget it. BTW, don't you keep up with world news? Ireland, Iceland, Lithuania, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, etc - half of Europe is in economic meltdown. Most EU countries have had 20+% unemployment rates for a decade or two. Ditto for US, Japan (which has been in deep recession for more than TWO decades!), etc. Even China & Brazil's growth rates are declining.

Irish are going out of country to get better job. Would you like to go there ? Try in China or in India. Both countries are finically improving countries now. You may try Japan also. Good luck.

I suggest you talk to your cousin's wife & the route she used to get into Canada because the jobs you're describing fall into the unskilled work category & you're not going to get a visa for similar work in the Republic of Ireland or anywhere else in the EU - working as a nanny/au pair, home help is unskilled work, there are no visas for unskilled work, as you've figured out from the job vacancies you're seeing they're looking for highly skilled professionals with the potential for high earnings. The only way around the visa issue is if you can claim citizenship of Ireland through a parent or grandparent born on the ISLAND of Ireland or if you can claim citizenship of another EU member state
