Should illegals get jobs created by stimulus package?

Should provision of status remained in final piece of legislation? Does this still not leave American workers unemployed? Illegal Immigrants Will Get Stimulus Jobs Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11:15PM By Brad O’Leary One big beneficiary of President Obama’s stimulus bill will be illegal immigrants. It’s estimated that tens of thousands of jobs created by the economic stimulus plan would be filled by illegal immigrants, particularly in California and Texas, where illegal immigrants make up a large portion of the construction industry. Studies predict illegal immigrants living and working in the U.S. could take up to 300,000 construction specific jobs, or 15 percent of the two million jobs the new taxpayer-financed bill will create. The House version of the $787 billion stimulus package originally required anyone who would receive employment benefits to have their legal residency verified. However, that provision was removed from the final piece of legislation. According to Steve Camarota, Director of Research for the Center for Immigration Studies, the resident verification condition was deleted by Democrat leaders of Congress before the bill ever made it to committee. Specifically, the condition that was removed would have required the identities of those individuals seeking employment benefits from the stimulus package to be vetted through an internet based E-Verifying system. This system is a quick way to reference eligibility from the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration. “E-Verify is our most effective tool for preventing illegal immigrants from getting jobs, and they chose not to use it,” said Camarota

Billy M. wrote:"Hellooooo - anybody with a brain in there? Illegals spend their money HERE, for cripes sakes - the more money in the pipe, the better off the economy will be. Don't gimme this shlt about them sending all their money out of the country - they still gotta eat while they're here and pay rent, utilities, taxes...they can't do that and send all their money elsewhere." Let's see now...room with a dozen other guys and split the rent and utilities 12 ways. Don't pay taxes because you commit fraud to claim exemptions (under a stolen or fraudulent SS number) OR get paid under the table. Don't earn enough to have much money left after sending remittances home--a result of depressing not only your wages but those of the Americans who work other low wage jobs. In the meantime, the U.S. taxpayer is not only providing the stimulus money to pay for the job YOU have, but also providing the unemployment and welfare payments for Americans who are STILL out of work because YOU have the jobs they should have. Americans who have mortgages to pay, who can't buy cars or send their kids to college because YOU are driving down wages and taking the jobs that could tide Americans over until the economy gets better.

American citizens will always come last under this administration So let's get this straight. If someone illegally breaks into my home, but cooks me a damn good breakfast, am i morally obligated to keep providing him or her shelter?

We need to start demanding from our government employees to implement E-verify in the job market, and social services now. No more bullsh*t about more studies needed. It works, Obama needs to put up or shut up, isn't he the one who said that our government needs to be held accountable for their actions, and inaction's? It's time for us to start calling for some heads. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T7KRHV-FIQ Edit: Ali A, well said! Geasy, su madre viste botos combate.

No. Legal residents and citizens are being laid off left and right. This is wrong. Illegals should not benefit from the stimulus and they should not have taken off that clause in the legislation--that job seekers must produce their residency. Actually, the opinion posted in the question is late--the original event was in March. I went and checked on it and actually only about 15% of construction jobs are held by illegals. So it is not as serious as the article in this question puts it. But they took out the use of an electronic system that would allow employers to check to see if the person was illegal or not. This can be done but probably the employers didn't want it so that they could still hire illegals for cheaper wages. Also much of their money does go back to their country. Many illegal men working in construction, live 10 people in a room. They do not have a big rent to pay since it is split among them. This is a big mistake. This is going to come back and haunt us as a nation. Our factories have been shipped over to Mexico and China, our telecommunications outsourced to India--all the lower wage jobs are being given to illegal immigrants. What is left for legal residents and citizens? Only 15% of the USA population has a college degree. Everyone cannot be a professional. Corporations have laid off thousands of people. Who is going to hire Americans?

No. But that's what we get when our elected representatives in Congress do not take the time to read a bill before signing it into law. It's time to vote the bums out of office. Where do these idiots come from?
it seems like obama was a mistake. if he loves illegals so much then he needs to foot the bill and give them jobs.

No, no, no, and no! They are here illegally and they should be deported. Whether they contribute to the economy or not does not justify breaking legitimate immigration laws. If the economy collapse then that is our problem and not Mexico's or the rest of the world. Illegal immigration is a crime and brings in lawlessness into this country whether you admit it or not. We have domestic crimes as it is and we just do not need more.
