I live near the Mexico/U.S. border, schools are failing, what should be done?

Hang a sign on your front door saying ICE Headquarters, buy a gun, and install big locks. I'd move away, myself.

That's because the illegals kids are using the resources meant for our children! Also, the extra time spent on non-english speaking kids, takes that time away from teaching the other kids! No wonder kids in border states are falling behind! The states do not have the resources, or the teachers to fill all these needs, so our children are being made to suffer!

since the laws protect anyone wanting to get an education to DO SO, including illegal immigrants there should be a better way of educating them, and all students. In other words, teach them in their native tongue. what if parents of "white" children moved to Italy because one of their parents got a job offer over there. would you want to send your child to anItalian school knowing that your child would not benefit from sitting in that classroom all day? I don;t think so. you would want your child to learn something and get something out of being in school. I know that most people are using English as a Second Language in their countries, but Spanish is being used as one as well. Besides, what is wrong with a student learning in his mother-tongue, than transferring what he has learned to English thereby learning in two languages. being bilingual is a wonderful thing and many more parents should WANT their children to know multiple languages. Since we can't do a whole lot to change the laws, why don't we try to embrace those who ARE here trying to get educated and just GET ALONG instead of judging them for who they are?

Well, if we could repeal the decision by the supreme court saying that even if children are not legal residents of the United States, we could kick them all out and then instead of money going towards educating the ungrateful (after all, if they came here legally, that would be showing they are grateful for what they get), it would go to educating the people that deserve the benefits of our tax dollars.

I'm probably going to have to get back to you, because I'm in a rush now, but this is my big issue too.

No habla ingles!!! That's why the schools near the border are failing! It's NOT out of the school district's control. They are taking in illegal students with no papers, no vaccination records, etc.. As more illegals move into your area, the citizens are moving elsewhere. The schools have no choice but to take in illegals to fill the classrooms, otherwise jobs would be in jeopardy! But they could be in jeopardy because illegals are not paying any taxes, so who is going to suppport the school districts financially? The law-abiding, tax-paying citizens no longer live in that district, so how are they going to get taxed to keep the schools afloat?

That is why the US should officially become bi-lingual like Canada. That way these students could be taught in Spanish and learn English slowly through the school system.
