Does anyone work at albertsons?

Does anyone know what are the requirements to obtain strictly a work visa? are work visas given only to highl?

  • y skilled people or can a specific type of industry provide them? does the offshore drilling industry give work visas or do they prefer to hire their own local people? do the offshore drilling companies need to hire foreign workers if they couldnt find anyone to do that type of job? what type of workers will have the easiest time obtaining strictly a work visa? how does the offshore drilling industry work if they dont give work visas?

  • Answer:

I assume based on your previous question you are talking about the U.S. I have no experience with the off-shore drilling industry and their workers. My suggestion would be to research this field, perhaps contact a few employees. I would suspect it wouldn't qualify for a H-1B unless you are looking are a Chemical Engineering of some kind (which I doubt) that would be beneficial to the company. Depending on the type of position you are looking for an H-2b may be possible-- but doubtful based on what you write. The best way into the U.S. is via gaining an education-- Bachelor's, Master's, PhD etc-- bar that, you are looking at marriage.

Offshore drilling is generally very highly skilled and requires a number of certifications. There are more qualified & experienced offshore drilling experts in the US than jobs in the US. US & UK provide most of the world's offshore drillers. Brazil & Namibia are prime prospects these days for American & British offshore drilling experts, drilling engineers, etc. Their companies which employ or contract with them get their employment visas for them. The oil industry & a few others are very closed communities - most of these people know each other or know of each other. It's not like some industry which can use a million people. It has always been a very mobile career - once one well is drilled, everybody has to move on to the next drilling site. Most jobs are through referrals. Teams have to work closely together in tough living & working conditions, and they must have only highly qualified, experienced team players they know they can rely on. Lives depend on this. If you were fully trained & qualified in the industry, you would know where the jobs are - or your coworkers would. If you think you can get employment visa to work in US drilling industry, onshore or off, forget it. About half of qualified Americans in this area of expertise are looking for work - and they have US-mandatory certifications, experience, contacts, references, etc.

take a look at http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1286.html. lots of information there on the various types of work visas. I can't say I have that much expertise with the oil industry, but unless the rig is in foreign territory, it would hard for a foreigner to get a job. there's no shortage of folks in Texas and Louisiana who do this sort of thing.

for the US you need visas ... and the skills to get them
