What is an I-20 Visa?

I'm on expired f1 visa with valid I20 but needs to leave the country for school trip what should I do ?

  • I'm on 4 years i20 , n my visa has expired but I'm on a full time student , the university is offering 19 credit hours toward my education career if I join the Trip to England ( thriught the univ) but the problem is how can I enter the us back ?! I can't go back to my home country n Renew I'd miss out everything.. What are my options to solve this ?!

  • Answer:

In order to return to the U.S. after a trip to the U.K., you would need to be in possession of a valid passport, a valid F-1 visa, and either a new SEVIS I-20 form or a properly endorsed SEVIS I-20. If your current F-1 visa is expired, you would need to get a new one to return. The big question is: Would the U.S. embassy in London give you an appointment for a visa interview? If the answer to that is "yes," then going to the U.K. would not be risky and you could get the 19 credit hours in the trip to England program. Sometimes the visa office is reluctant to service aliens who do not reside in their jurisdiction, but they may be willing to see you because of your prolonged stay in England. According to the embassy's website, callers from within the United States should dial 1-866-382-3589 for Operator Assisted Visa Information & Appointment Booking.

If you need a U.K. visa don't try to make overseas calls and don't try to join the trip, it will just be a waste of money. The United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA) officers attached to the Consulates Generals at Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York decide on visa applications based on the documentation provided by mail. A visa interview will only be conducted if their are chances to get the visa but the officer has further questions. Your application will be denied since you are not able to provide proof of holding documentation to return to the United States [missing visa] and the vague chances to get a new F-1 visa in London will not convince a UKBA officer that you will actually leave the country. Should you however hold the citizenship of a country which is visa exempt to the United Kingdom and your passport allows to study in the United Kingdom for up to 6 months without a visa I recommend to stick to the advice of "Fred S". http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/doineedvisa/visadatvnationals .. Citizen of Singapore do not need a visa to study in the U.K. for up to six months. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/resources/en/docs/ecgdocs/studentover18flowchart ..
