Green Card Interview in Chicago office, any tips?

• Hi everyone. I have a green card interview with my husband based on marriage. We been married for 3 years now and it will be our first interview, because my husband just recently got his citizenship. So I don't know what to expect on the interview. I was just wondering what is the process over there in Chicago office? Do they separate us? Will they stamp my passport if we get approved? If not how will we know that I am approved. I was reading on the internet, that a lot of couples bring their attorney to the interview in Chicago. My lawyer is in New York, because we relocated after she started our paperwork. In New York interview is very simple. They interview you together and stamp passport in the end. Interesting how is everything goes in Chicago. Hopefully you guys can share with me with your experience. Thank you.

  Green card interviews, from my experience have followed pretty much the same protocol in most cities: 1) You will be interviewed together 2) You will both first get sworn in and be told that they are audio recording the interview. 3) You will be asked the yes/no questions on Form I-485 4) You will then be asked questions about each other: birthdays, cell numbers, full names, parents names, professions, education etc etc. Just basic stuff that any couple would know, nothing tricky. 5) They will ask you to present any additional evidence or ask for the original of things that you have already submitted. 6) They will then take your I-94 and EAD. 7) You will either be told one or two things at your interview: A) You've been approved and they stamp your passport with the I-551 stamp. B) You will be notified via mail of our decision-- you can usually check your case online to. Not many people with straight forward cases get denied. Relax, don't worry and there is no need for an attorney to be present.
