What is the aim and purpose of having NGOs in a country?

Immigrating to Japan, Korea or Taiwan?

  • Hi! I'm a 14 year old Filipino guy and since I HAVE to (nothing illegal, hard times just caught up) move back to Manila from the US, I want to look at ways for me to go to a better place. I've narrowed it down to three countries in East Asia that I really like, but I'm having a hard time deciding which one I want to aim for when I grow up. I'm fully willing to learn the language, culture and blend in (I'm Filipino but have Chinese ancestry, lucky). So please help me make a decision and tell me why? South Korea: I've heard that you can apply for naturalization after working there for 5 years. However, I've also heard that finding work there isn't necessarily the easiest thing to do. Also, there's always the risk of war breaking out and that kind of defeats the whole purpose of me going there. But I do love KPop, KMovies and KFashion so South Korea looks really good, especially Seoul. Japan: A strong, developed, safe, resilient country with beautiful culture but notoriously tough immigration laws. I realize I can probably never be a Japanese citizen unless I marry one or magically find Japanese blood in my ancestry, but do you think they would relax their immigration laws in the coming years because of their aging population and stuff? I sure hope so :D Taiwan: This is the country (or territory) I know the least about. I know they speak Mandarin and it has 4 seasons (well Korea and Japan do too). That's about it, but I do know they are developed. Also, I'm worried because I know that the fast rising jobs are in Math and Science and I suck at those areas :'( ........you think I could just become an English teacher or something of the like (I don't mind a factory job or whatever, as long as I can support myself) and become a naturalized citizen? THANKS!

  • Answer:

Over the three countries, I would choose Taiwan. Food is great, and ppl are nice. Japan is hard to be a citizen if you are coming now. Korea has very intense and homogenized culture and race, so I assume it is very hard to get into the Korean society and be true Korean. Taiwan had its native race and the ppl from China. Japan has few native races. It might be all right if you stay several years in Korea, though. It seems a nice country to travel around.

I've been to Japan and South Korea, but never Taiwan. I liked SK better than Japan. Japan is more crowded and seems to have more disasters wreaking havoc on the country. The people were more open in SK too I thought.

Japan would be very hard, you have a short time to work there before they say you need to learn their language and calligraphy nearly perfectly, or get out. Taiwan is the Democratic China, don't expect too much difference between America and Taiwan except the oriental feel and way of life. South Korea is a very good idea if you're not expecting American things like perfect wifi, 4g cell phone coverage, and doritoes.
