Can you get a US visa in London for a non UK student, after this it gets complicated!!?
-
How things change, we had everything organized, I thought!!. Now Maria, a Brazilian National who is studying English in York, UK cannot visit me in the USA until her after her visa expires. The hopefully easy part of the question is can she renew her visa at the US Embassy in London?, and how long will this process take?. The complicated parts are that she also wants to fly from the US and visit her son who is a student in Canada. Would the US visa be enough to give her admittance to Canada, or would she have to apply for a separate Canadian visa too?. We have heard a US visa is also valid for Canadian entry but we are by no means certain on that. Even more complicated, she also wants to return to the UK to continue her studies after her welcome in England (six months I believe) is over. If she leaves the UK for a short time (four to six weeks) can she re-enter the UK after her US/Canadian trip?. Any answers will be welcome and gratefully received, however it would be very useful if you can include links to your sources because we need to know for certain as we do not want to lose money on the flights or any embarrassing refusals at boarding or even enforced return to Brazil at our own cost. I am at present searching through the US and Canadian Embassy websites but so far I cannot find anything that covers these questions specifically. Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:
Now Maria, a Brazilian National who is studying English in York, UK cannot visit me in the USA until her after her visa expires. What visa? Her UK student visa? If this is what you meant, then you are incorrect. She CAN visit the US whilst in the UK with a student visa. If she goes during half term she would not miss any school. The hopefully easy part of the question is can she renew her visa at the US Embassy in London?, If you mean a US tourist visa, then yes. This is where she can renew/apply for a US tourist visa. Students are allowed to apply for a tourist visa in the country they are studying in. How long will it take? Depends on how backed up they are. Could be a couple of weeks, or a couple of months. Would the US visa be enough to give her admittance to Canada, or would she have to apply for a separate Canadian visa too? A visa for the US does NOT grant her entry into any other country. Just the US. If she leaves the UK for a short time (four to six weeks) can she re-enter the UK after her US/Canadian trip?. As long as she has a valid visa for the UK she can enter the UK. Do not buy any plane tickets until you have the visa's in hand. If the visa's were to be denied then you are unlikely to be refunded the money for the tickets.
