Do I need a visa to Canada?

Why do I need a visa to enter Canada?

  • Why is that? I'm a Brazilian citizen and if I want to go to Canada I need a fricking Visa whilst Australians, British, New Zealanders don't need anything. I'm tired of having those commonwealth countries having it too easy just because their country did not have to go through all the economical downturns that my country did. The other thing is my girlfriend need a Visa to go to Brazil as well so that does my head in. If Canada abolished all visa requirements from Brazil, me and my girlfriend would not have to go through all that now, because Brazil would probably courteously abolish visa requirements from Canadian citizens as well. For God's sake stop sucking up to the British and commonwealth countries. They are all broke anyway. Just because you share a common language with them that does not make them any better. I'm damn tired of this.

  • Answer:

Because people from Brazil entering Canada are likely to: a) Attempt to illegally work or stay in Canada, b) Often don't have the funds to pay for their visit, c) Often have serious medical problems which they hope Canadian health care will treat, d) Try having children in Canada in order to get them citizenship, e) Are highly unlikely to be able to qualify to legally immigrate to Canada, f) Come from a country with large amounts of illegal drug activities, g) Has an extremely high percentage of drug traffickers, wanted criminals, human rights violators, etc. h) Comes from a country which does not have reliably systems for tracking criminals and/or won't make that information available to CIC or Canadian Border Services, i) Is not a signatory to the UNHCR "safe harbour" clause nor similiar bilateral agreements with Canada. i.e. it refuses to take in refugees and expects to pass them on to other countries, j) Come from an area of the world with large numbers of communicable diseases (AIDs, maleria, typhoid, etc.) dangerous to Canadians, etc., etc. And your preoccupation with Commonweath countries is silly. Canada requires visas from nearly all commonwealth nations -- South Africa, Dominica, Cameron, India, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, etc., etc. It has everything to do with the fact that large numbers of your fellow citizens won't follow Canadian immigration laws voluntarily. As others have said, if you don't like it, you and your girl friend can try visiting some country which doesn't requires visas.

You need a visa because Brazilians don't go home. Same in the USA, we've got hundreds of thousands of them living here illegally.

You just answered the question yourself. You see, you are from a third world country. Canada is a first world country. Canada is pretty damn far away from you, and its an expensive trip to just go for tourism. Also, your country has a much higher rate of visa fraud than other first world countries, such as the ones you mentioned. People from first world countries see little need to overstay a tourist visa, because they are usually happy where they are. People from third world countries are more likely to not return home. In your additional details, you mention "I am visiting that crap pretty soon and will live there". So you just admitted that you have no intention of going for "tourist" purposes, you intend to get the visa then overstay it and live in Canada. Now, those of us in developed countries aren't stupid. We know that if you are young, you don't have a job, you don't own a house or a car....and you are from Brazil or Mexico or Bolivia....there is a very high likelyhood that you aren't comming for tourist reasons. However, if you are from your third world country and happen to run a bank, have a house and family etc. and have actually accomplished things in your life, you probally won't overstay that visa. That's why developed countries have a visa process for people such as yourself. It is designed to weed out people like you, who would be a burden to their social services and infrastructure. No one really cares if you drop your visa policy for Canada either....because it is a waste of time having one for Canada and the US anyway. I spent a month in South America backpacking when I was younger. I went to Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru....and I purposefully avoided Brazil because of your stupid visa charge for Americans. I would have likely spent hundreds of dollars there had I gone, and helped lift your country out of poverty. But since you guys have a chip on your shoulder, I just said "screw then. I can spend my money elsewhere". And I did. You know damn well that an American such as myself would never in a million years overstay my time in a country like yours, yet you require the visa anyway.
