Why are illegals given so many rights in america when legal immigrants are working so hard for citizenship?

  • the reason i ask the question above is because: 1. I am an immigrant from India and my parents have been working so hard to obtain greencard and citizenship. It's been 6 years since we applied for greencard and we just finished the first part of it. It will take us another 2 years or so to get it. 2. My dad decided to start working in America in the IT business field. He has so much work experience and gets paid very well for his job yet the government still takes so long to process our applications for greencard. 3. WE ARE LEGAL IMMIGRANTS YET ILLEGALS GET SO MANY RIGHTS LIKE EDUCATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, CONSIDERATION FOR CITIZENSHIP, ETC. Illegals have come to America ILLEGALLY. yet the government (aka democrats) still push to make them legal citizens of United States....but on the other hand, immigrants who have come to US legally have to go through a brutal process for obtaining citizenship. furthermore, illegals are given soo many rights and privileges when immigrants who have worked very hard have their applications for greencard processed VERYYY slowly. So I'm asking, why is this so? Why is the government very slow in processing applications for legal immigrants? Why are illegals given lots of consideration when legals are working so hard? (illegals may be working hard but they have broken the law by coming in illegally in the first place) It makes no sense to me...I've lived in the US for 9 years now. I'm about to be heading into college in fall 2011 and I might get rejected by my own state for in state tuition because I have not obtained a greencard yet. My parents have been paying taxes and have great jobs here in the US. Yet I still might not get instate tuition b/c of my situation. On the other hand, why are people even bothering to support the DREAM ACT? I feel that America should first give consideration for the legals and making them American citizens first and then worry about illegals... The government has the situation very messed up...

  • Answer:

It makes no sense to most of us, but you are right- illegals do have it easier than people who bother to emigrate the right way and do things legally. I can certainly understand your frustration. I am so glad you realize whom the blame lies with; the Dems claim they want to make things easier for all immigrants, and that Republicans don't like immigrants. That is not true, and I am sure you can understand that immigration laws are so that we don't just allow any old riff raff into the country. Immigrants such as you and your parents, educated and hard working people who obey the laws of their adoptive country, are whom we welcome. The Dems cater to illegal because they are hoping for future voters.

It isn't fair. That is why more immigrants should notify state reps and let them know this is not fair. That is part of the problem, since legal immigrants are doing it by the laws, they get no say so. I would love to see legal immigrants start speaking up about how unfair it is. No matter how they disguise it, they want to reward the criminals.

I don't know why they give those lazy illegals rights. I wish there was some way we could bring this issue up to congress.

You're getting your information mixed up. What Democrats want isn't to just hand citizenship over to all illegal immigrants, what we want to do is make it easier for foreigners to become citizens. For instance, people like you who immigrated legally would, with the Democratic ideal, be able to get your green cards much more quickly. Republicans, though they won't admit it openly, don't like immigrants at all. They not only want to keep illegal immigrants out, they want to keep the difficulty of getting a green card, etc. the way it is, majorly inconveniencing both legal and illegal immigrants. Good luck with your integration into the country, legally and socially.
