What do you think ICE: 370 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in 10 States?

• MINNEAPOLIS - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in Chicago announced Friday the arrests of 370 convicted illegal immigrants and immigration fugitives in a three-day bust in 10 Midwest states. ICE said 347 of those arrested had prior criminal convictions, including nine gang members and 16 convicted sex offenders. “The record number of arrests made during this operation is a direct result of excellent teamwork among federal agencies who share a commitment to protect public safety,” ICE Director John Morton said. “ICE is focused on arresting convicted criminals who prey upon our communities, and tracking down fugitives who scoff at our nation’s immigration laws.” The operation ended Thursday and arrests were made in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin. Of these total Midwest arrests, 87 were made in the ICE St. Paul, Minnesota area of responsibility. Of the 87 arrested in the St. Paul area, 47 had felony criminal convictions, and 32 had multiple criminal convictions. 8 have been accepted by the associated U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution for illegally re-entering the United States after they had been previously deported -- a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. “The criminal aliens we targeted in this operation are not the people we want in our communities,” said Scott Baniecke, field office director for ICE-ERO in Bloomington, Minn. “Arresting fugitives and criminal aliens remains an ICE priority to help make our communities safer.” So far this fiscal year, ICE has removed a total of 142,526 illegal aliens from the U.S. which is a record number. http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/news/minnesota/ice-370-illegal-immigrants-arrested-10-states-aug-27-2010

  I would feel better if this was a daily average! The "pathway to citizenship" concept/plan makes a mockery of American law and is a slap in the face of American citizens and Legal Migrants. There is no way we can justify giving Amnesty or any form of the pathway to citizenship to people who have come into our country illegally. We are a nation of laws and we expect everyone to obey our laws. Changing laws to favor criminals is far from appropriate. People illegally entering our country become criminals the minute they cross into our country and they compound that crime every day they remain here illegally. U.S. citizens committing that many crimes are considered habitual criminals and are jailed or imprisoned for it. Special interest groups supporting amnesty are trying to change our laws to allow illegal aliens to gain citizenship. WHY - millions of immigrants have come to our country legally and helped make our nation the great nation it has been. Why should we allow criminals to violate our laws and be allowed to remain unpunished in our country? Complaining about breaking up families with deportation is a mute argument. When American citizens commit crimes they go to jail or prison leaving behind their families - why should we do anything differently with illegal aliens. Chances are the families of the illegal’s are illegal also and if they are not they have the choice of remaining in the U.S. or going with the illegal being deported; that is not our problem. We did not violate the law, we did not encourage the illegal to violate the law; do the crime pay the price! NO AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS - NO "PATHWAY TO CITIZENSHIP" FOR ILLEGALS!
