How can one enter uk via france?

My South African passport is about to expire in 6 weeks. Can I enter the UK with a temporary one ?

• I have ILR as I have been in the UK six years. I am going home to be married and will only be in South Africa for 3 weeks. This is not enough time to apply for (and recieve) my new passport. Does anyone know if HMC&E will allow me to enter the UK ? I could then apply for a new passport here and not worry if it is going to go missing in the post ?

  You'll be fine going to the UK if the current passport has the visa stating that you have Indefinate Leave to Remain and if your current passport has not yet expired (although I'm not sure if there would be problems going back in if you've left the UK for too long). You may feel a bit more comfortable if you ring and confirm with the British embassy in South Africa to have official advice.
