Renewing Minor's passport?

Renewing my passport- can't go by mail.. where to go?

  • I got my first US passport when I was 15 (expired in 2009) and I need to get my passport renewed for two upcoming trips. I didn't see a passport agency near me or in Atlanta (I'm in Georgia.) It says I can't order by mail because I was under 16 on my former passport, though I am 21 now. I still have my old passport and all my papers. The USPS says all I will need to do to get this renewed is pay the fee plus a 25 dollar acceptance fee. However, Since I can't fill the form in by mail (because my former passport was done when I was under 16) travel.gov says I must turn this in, in person. At a passport agency. How do I get my passport renewed? Do I have to go in to the post office and do something with them, or somehow find a passport agency nearby to validate this? If so, where the heck do I go?

  • Answer:

Since your previous passport was a child passport you will need to follow the procedures for a first adult passport application. You can fill the application form online and print it out if you want to. http://travel.state.gov/passport/forms/ds11/ds11_842.html .. Alternately you can fill a blank form at one of the 18 post offices in Atlanta which offer passport service or the Superior Court Clerk. http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/DefaultForm.aspx .. You must do it in person and cannot send in the application by mail since you must made a sworn statement about your U.S. citizenship before a passport agent. The fee for the passport application will be $110 for regular service (4-6 weeks) to be paid to the U.S. government and $25 for administering the oath to be paid to the post office or court clerk. If you want to get your passport within 2-3 weeks you can add an expedition fee of $60. For overnight courier delivery once it is ready you can add an additional $12.72. Should you need your passport in less then two weeks you can get an appointment at one of the 24 regional U.S. passport agencies in the country. The nearest one is at New Orleans, LA. http://travel.state.gov/passport/npic/agencies/agencies_913.html .. Source(s): http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html ..
