Be honest ladies, Would the price of an engagement ring matter to you if you truly loved him? cheap or not?

like everyone else here, I think love is what matters. However, I do think that what your man spends on your ring kind of reflects how much he cares. If the guy has no money, I would not care and would be happy with the little ring, but if I know that he has money and every weekend he goes out with his friends to bars and concerts and movies, he is spending like 200 bucks per weekend, I expect a nice ring, because if he can spend all that money on his friends, why not on me??? In that case, I would care. I expect for him To spend more on me than on his friends. I want him to make a little sacrifice for me, after all, he is the guy, and even in the animal kingdom the male works so hard to get the female!! Shouldn't be any different for us humans.

Mine was cheap for an engagement ring but I love it because he gave it to me. Anyone who says the price matters they are just gold diggers.

NO the price does Not matter to me!!! It's not the price of the ring but what the ring means to you! It shouldn't matter what it cost but the true meaning!!

Yeah, they say "oh, no, it's all about the love." Lies. They want you to spend money on the ring, and a fair deal. Somewhere else on Answers is a fiancee asking why her maybe-to-be hubby spent only $175, when he friend's fiancee spent more (and didn't make as much cash). But here's the reasons why: 1.) Bragging rights - My ring is bigger than yours (even if it is piss-poor quality). It's their way to prove to other women that you are for real, too. 2.) It proves to them you are willing to put in for the long haul. And when you wash away a quarter of your annual income, they better believe it. My wife told me if I didn't get her a nice ring, she'd say no. I think she was bluffing... but I didn't call it.

I would say love is important, but remember, she has to show that ring to her FATHER and other family members. While she won't judge you by it, everyone else will. I believe the going rate for an engagement ring is 3 months salary/straight time before deductions. Or just let her pick out the ring. If you can afford it or finance it reasonably, then there is no problem. If she wants something totally outrageous, then there might be a more serious problem at hand. Another possibility is to check out a jewelry show in your area. They usually have great prices on top quality jewelry. Also, try a pawn shop. You could get a really great ring for cheap, especially with the economy so bad. Just make sure you get it looked at by a real jeweler the same day.

honestly, I would not want my baby spending hie hard earned money on a stupid ring he can not afford. I know his love for me is far more important that some stupid ring that is just in place to prove something to others. Love is what is important. But then I think I am unusual in this respect. I have seen that many people marry just because they want to look good in front of their friends and families, and then they end up unhappy (and divorced) because they married for the wrong reasons. I've never been like that. I prefer something unique, like a ring we picked out together at an antique store or on a trip together. That would make it special. Not the price. Anyone who says the price of a ring is important is very shallow and I suspect they will not end up very happy in their marriage.

Five and a half years ago a man gave me a plastic ring from one of those grocery store vending machines and brought me to tears (and giggles) when he said "I just realized I have to marry you and I had to do it before I lost the nerve, this was the best I could do on 3 minutes notice so will you marry me? ...please answer me before i pass out.." We're celebrating our three year anniversary in six months :)

It matters. it shows his level of commitment and gives you a warning sign of potential problems. if he goes into debt, potential problems. if he is cheap, potential problems. problem is - every situation is different. does he pay student loans? does he pay child support or alimony? how much consumer debt does he have? are you guys footing the bill for the wedding yourselves? have you bought a home? his profession and income matter too. if he earned six figures a quarter carat would be insulting. If he worked at walmart, I would be pleased to accept a walmart ring that he paid monthly on layaway.
