How heavy are tungsten rings?

Do titanium and/or tungsten wedding bands look like white gold rings?

  • I have a 10 karat white gold engagement ring. My fiance and I are on a budget and are curious about titanium and tungsten wedding bands. We love that they are extremely durable and a lot less expensive but we are concerned about my wedding band matching my engagement ring. Any help is appreciated :)

  • Answer:

All three are completely different metals. Titanium rings are a grayish color. When the titanium ring is highly polished it reflects the light and looks kind of "whiteish". But titanium SCRATCHES pretty easily really. But it is very strong, so you will never bend it or break it. But as it scratches it becomes darker looking. Tungsten rings are a "steely" color, definitely darker than white gold. But if the ring is high polished it will appear lighter in color, and probably match pretty decently. A lot of grooms will get high polished tungsten bands and it matches up ok with a white gold ladies ring. But here is the benefit of the tungsten ring - It will probably never scratch!! So it will most likely always look brand new, just have to clean it with soap and water occasionally to keep it nice and shiny. Here is a good selling tungsten wedding band for $99, but there is also a $25 coupon that you can use on the website: http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/tr-1111.html

Tungsten tends to be darker than white gold (it's normally more of a gunmetal color). Titanium might coordinate better.

Titanium and tungsten are both a little more grey than white. White gold is yellow gold with additives to make it look white, so unless it has a rhodium-plating, it will always look a much warmer white, almost buttery. Here is tungsten (the men's band) with a white gold set: http://static.weddingwire.com/static/wedding/685001_690000/689673/community/400x400_1284361384489-arrows.jpg Not the best match... This show titanium with white gold: http://www.etsy.com/listing/17112340/titanium-and-white-gold-trillion-diamond You can see how the white gold looks yellowish against the titanium. I would get matching bands, personally, so a 10k band to compliment the engagement ring. Other points to consider... 1. Titanium and tungsten are hard, gold is soft, so you risk your wedding band wearing away your engagement ring. Gold does actually lose material when scratched. 2. Titanium and tungsten are difficult/impossible to resize. Good luck.
