Is engagement ring same as wedding ring? Or people have two rings?
-
Does the guy get a ring for an engagement? Or is it only the girl? And what happens at wedding? Do they exchange same ring again? Or have two rings instead? My boyfriend proposed to me in the most unexpected situation..and he did not have a ring with him at that time. Now, we are having an engagement party next month where would exchange the rings. We are going to pick the rings together. Currently we live in different towns and we have decided to have a wedding next year or so..when I end my contract with my company and move to his place. isn't it customary to exchange rings for wedding as well? So, we get two rings? I have seen girls wearing an engagement ring with a diamond and a wedding band which is more simpler. But, I have never seen guys wearing two rings!! Pour in your thoughts please!

Answer:
When a man proposes, and the girl accepts, they are engaged. He can either give her a ring that same day or they can go shopping together and select a ring. This engagement ring is for her to wear to show other guys that she is "taken". An engagement party is NOT thrown by the couple. That is very rude as it looks like you want people to bring gifts. An engagement party is thrown by one of the PARENTS and it is an event to introduce the future son-in-law or daughter-in-law to close friends and relatives. The invitations should state "No gifts please" and it should be worded something like : John and Mary Smith are delighted to announce the engagement of our daughter Susan to Mark Jones. You are invited to an open house on .... to meet our future son-in-law. No gifts please!" You should already have received your engagement ring as people will want to see your ring and congratulate you. Some girls nowadays buy their guy a ring but it is not customary. This would be a "dressy" ring to wear on his right hand after he receives his wedding ring at the marriage but, really, this is more usual for gay men to do. As for the wedding bands -- if you are going together to select your engagement ring, this is the best opportunity to select both your wedding bands as you will be able to try yours on alongside the engagement ring to ensure that they look nice together. Truly, throwing your own engagement party and exchanging rings at that event sounds weird. And, btw, suzibell is incorrect about the rings - the wedding band is worn on the inside, closest to your heart - and the engagement ring on the outside. It is the marriage that is important, not the size of the rock.

usually from my knowledge the engagement ring is the prettier one :) for the wedding its usualy a band, can have diamonds but not the stone as on an engagement ring. so yes i think you have 2. and congrats!

Well, traditionally the engagement ring is for the girl only...symoblizing a man's love for the woman he wants to be his wife. She wears it on her left ring fingers because ancient times believe that there is a vein that runs from that finger straight to your heart. Then the couple exchanges wedding bands at the wedding. So, 2 rings for the girl and 1 ring for the guy. But my fiance works in the construction industry, so he will be getting two rings...not to wear both at once, but one to wear to work and one to wear at home or out on the town. His work ring will be titanium and his dress ring will be white gold with diamonds and onyx. To each is their own...

Girls get the engagement ring. Not guys. Hardly seems fair does it? Both get a wedding ring. Some forsake the engagement ring, others don't. But neither wear a wedding ring until wed, hence... wedding ring.

the engagement ring is worn with the wedding band and the guy only gets a ring at the wedding I don't see why you couldn't have two rings if you wanted to make Ur own rules its Ur exchange your choice

When the guy proposes he gives you a ring. & it is called an engagement ring. That's what my fiance' did. And then when you get married you both exchange rings that's when he gets his ring. He doesn't wear a ring when you get engaged.

There is one engagement ring, for the bride to be; the groom to be doesn't get an engagement ring as a general rule. The engagement ring is just that, a sign of betrothal. Many engaged couples get matching ring sets, engagement and wedding ring for her and a wedding ring for him. Wear the engagement ring from the time he presents it to you. Remove the engagement ring for the wedding ceremony. He will place the wedding ring on your finger and you will do the same with his wedding ring assuming it is a double ring ceremony. The engagement ring is then placed back on the 3rd finger of the left hand. The wedding goes on first because it is then closer to the heart. Tradition says that there is a major blood vessel that runs from the ring finger directly to the heart and that's why the ring is worn or that finger. There are times when couples don't have the money and an engagement ring wasn't purchased and given until the 10th anniversary! I know of one case where the groom didn't have enough money to buy a wedding ring so he made one from a horse shoe nail.

The engagment ring is given to only the girl when the guy proposes, later at the wedding ceremony they exchange wedding bands, but the guy only gets one ring. The girl wears her engagment ring and wedding band... hope this help kinda confusing huh!

Traditionally guys dont get an engagement ring. He proposes to the girl with a ring, usually a solitaire diamond or it can be any stone. During the wedding the bride and groom exchange rings, but again, I know men who have not had wedding bands. Most do I think tho. The wedding ring is usually less fancy than the engagement ring. In this day and age tho, if your man wants an engagement ring, go for it. He could always wear it on the other hand when you get the wedding rings

because men don't get engagement rings. Don't exchange rings, you do that at the wedding.
