How do you get married in Canada?

I would like to get married by a friend. How do I accomplish this in Alberta Canada?

  • Alberta law states that you can not receive the ability to be a temporary commissioner of marriage unless a permanent commissioner is unable to attend the particular location or date. We will be getting married in Banff Alberta and there are currently 5 commissioners in Banff. There are also several in Calgary Alberta that claim to be willing to travel to Banff. We just want a simple ... friendly ... non-religious ... no strangers involved ceremony...How do I do this?

  • Answer:

Do you know anyone who's been married by a friend in that town? I would ask them. Or I would ask the city hall for advice and see what they say. It may be possible to have both your friend and a commissioner present for the ceremony, but I'm not sure. Best of luck
