Why are strapless wedding dresses so popular?

To those who dislike strapless wedding dresses?

  • What are your reasons for doing so? Do you REALLY believe that the bulk of the women wearing them look bad? My wedding is less than 3 weeks away, and after reading post after post about how "they don't look good on girls who aren't stick thin", I'm getting really nervous about how I'll look. I'm not vain, but I do want to look and feel beautiful on my wedding day!

  • Answer:

Two reasons: yes, the majority of the time women look bad. The neckline you have looks like it should be ok. From what I've seen, having a straight-across top is the worst for needing to pull it up all the time. Also, if you have lacing on the back it seems to stay up better. You also have a good figure for wearing a strapless dress - you have enough curves to hold it up, without needing the support of a real dress. Now, given why I said it's not a problem for you, can you see why I'd say that they look bad most of the time? And I have to agree with the earlier poster - I am a churchgoer, and as such wouldn't dream of having my wedding outside a church. It's unfair that the bridal industry makes it so hard to find a dress that can be worn in a church. As it was, I still need to get a cover up for my dress, because it's sleeveless, and I consider myself lucky to have found it at that. If you are comfortable wearing something that that's revealing, that's your prerogative. However, most women aren't, and we get really bitter that we have to work so hard to find a normal dress, when a lot fewer women would object to a normal dress than have problems with strapless dresses.

Do you love it? Do you feel beautiful? That's all the matters! You look rather happy and glowy in the pictures. =o)

I honestly like strapless on SOME women. Others it just doesn't flatter them. But on you, it looks nice. You're boobs aren't hanging out and they're not pushed up to your neck either. You don't look uncomfortable and I think that's why so many women don't like them on others. :) If you feel beautiful in the dress, then that's ALL that matters. :)

I saw your picture before, you posted it when some other kid was ranting about strapless wedding dresses. I really do think it looks nice on you! You're not popping out or anything. And you look so happy, I can tell you love the dress, and that makes it PERFECT!

I personally think most people that do not like strapless do not like them for religious reasons. In many churches it is inappropriate to bare your shoulders in a church. The other reasons strapless is "bad" is b/c women go around the whole night with their fingers in their bodice yanking it up. However most wedding gown bodices are corseted and don't have the possibility of sliding down. Like everyone else says--do you care what others think? After all everyone invited to your wedding knows you and loves you. They are there to support you. You hardly have any paparazzi following you around trying to take the worst picture possible. This is your wedding day. Every bride always looks the most beautiful in her wedding dress.

I'm practically stick thin and I hate them! I don't want to be worried about if my boobs are showing or not while I'm dancing around having fun (and I've worn strapless dresses on several occasions with different bras and one with no bra, no good) They just plain and simple aren't comfortable to me. It's all about personal preference, just cause I can't stand them doesn't mean other girls shouldn't wear them. The most important thing is if YOU are comfortable in it no matter what your body type. No, your not the one being vain anyone that says 'they don't look good on girls who aren't stick thin' is being vain. I've seen quite a few strapless dresses that look absolutely gorgeous on girls with a little more meat to them, and after looking at the picture you are one of them. The dress fits perfectly on you and you look beautiful. Anyone that says you shouldn't wear it because you've got a little more meat on your bones tell them to 'f*ck off' because those pictures look absolutely fine! Go have fun and be happy and comfortable in your wedding dress!

My only concern would be...if you are a dancer and want to kick up your heals, are you going to have to be pulling your front up all the time? If so...have a seamstress add clear straps to use for the reception. Other than that...everyone has opinions...if you love the dress, feel beautiful in it, then go for it. If larger women did not look gorgeous in them...they wouldn't make them their size!

i think the dress looks amazing on you! the only reason i dont like them is because im heavier up top (if you know what i mean) and quite skinny, and the strapless dresses always fall down, and i have to keep pulling it up. which would look funny in pictures. if you feel comfortable in it (meaning you dont have to keep adjusting it i would go for it because you look absolutely gorgeous in it!

I don't like them because they show too much and it doesn't look classy (in my opionion). You may like it thought, but to me the women can show all they want on their wedding night, but put it up on the wedding day!
