How to get soft, smooth skin for my wedding?
-
At the moment my arms and legs are dry and rough and flaky. Basically they are just gross. I have started to exfoliate my skin more as I used to do it once a week and now I'm using exfoliating gloves every day and a harsher sugar scrub 1-2 times a week. At night I coat the driest parts of me - my arms and legs in a body butter and use a lighter lotion of the rest of my body. My fiance teases me because I've been going to bed in full length flannel pjs with cotton gloves and socks on in an attempt to get soft smooth skin for our wedding. Also on the top of skin, I am booking all my pre wedding pampering appointments this week and I was wondering how much before my wedding I should get a wax. It's gonna be my first time waxing and I'm getting my legs, underarms and bikini line done and I want it to last my wedding day and my honeymoon. I don't want to have to pack a razor for my honeymoon.

I would stop with the flannel. You need to wear cotton. Let your skin breath. I would not use body butter either, I would use anything that is doctor approved and with aloe. I have extremely dry skin, and I have to bath in lotion. Make sure when you shave your legs and other parts you are using shaving cream that is soothing and really sharp blades, I use a man razor. For waxing I have been told a week to a week and a half before for your face, arms and legs and bikini. This is in case something happens and you have a reaction you can get it taken care of before the big day. But I am not really super sure.

All that first-time waxing.... likely not going to have the effect you want. MOST people experience discomfort and a rash the first couple of times they get waxed. For you to do the whole shebang just before your wedding might be something you will greatly regret. The timing is terrible. Pack a razor on your honeymoon and skip the wedding pictures with you sporting a rash on your face, your underarms and your leg. Spare your husband the bikini wax rash on your honeymoon.

the best way to soft smooth skin is to coat your skin with baby oil right after showering. don't dry off.. let your skin be still wet and put on the baby oil. then pat yourself dry. the oil will trap moisture on your skin. also, add to that drinking at least 64 oz of water every single day and you will have soft smooth supple skin. dry skin is a sign of dehydration and it best cured by hydrating your body from within. exfoliating is the worst thing you can do for dry skin as exfoliating takes skin cells away and does not hydrate them. lotions almost all contain alcohol and other drying agents. you should use pure baby oil. not lotions or creams. vasiline patroleum jelly for elbows, heels and other really rough spots. those you can exfoliate some with a pumice stone.

Only exfoliate 1-2x a week, any more is contributing towards the problem. What you really need to do is moisturize. Try this: Get your fiance to rub your entire body in an intensive moistruizer before bed, then put on your sexiest long johns and wake up to silky skin. Severely weathered skin? Try cocoa butter or vaseline instead. Avoid scented lotions, get something really rich and dermatologist approved. Replace your regular body wash with an in-shower body lotion. Avoid harsh weather. Cover your skin if you have to go out in it. If you can, go in for a trial wax, get to know what you're in for and see if you experience an allergy. I left my waxing too close to the wedding and I did have a severe allergic reaction, so, learn from my mistake! If all is good, schedule your appointment about 3-5 days before the wedding.
Using harsh products will add to the problem - if you can feel a product scratching, then it is damaging your skin.Tone back on that.It is fine to use an exfoliater with exfoliating gloves (I do this),all it does is add to the effect You should switch from hot showers to lukewarm - hot water draws moisture out of the skin.Pat dry,do not rub.I actually air dry because this is kindest to your skin.Central heating also has a drying effect on skin so try a humidifier or place bowls of water on your radiators. As for moisturising, you need something that is rich in Vitamin E - try almond or jojoba oil which are ideal for dry skin. These are often used as base oils in aromatherapy.Almond is quite cheap and long lasting.Coconut is also a good oil but should be avoided if you have a nut allergy (same goes with almond).I love Lush's Dream Cream, also Dove Body Silk.If you don't want to change your moisturiser, then adding a Vitamin E capsule to it when you apply will help greatly.I have just discovered Lush and their products are fantastic - I highly recommend. All natural (suitable for vegans and vegetarians) and just gorgeous (I am currently using Godiva solid shampoo and conditioner,my hair hasn't been in this great a condition for years).Less is more BTW - using a lot of product will make little difference. When you apply moisturiser, start at your legs and work your way up and apply immediately after a bath/shower - your wet skin will draw it in straightaway.Your skin should just have a gleam with no sign of the product As for the waxing, you need to start with that now - your first few experiences with wax can leave you with a lot of red skin that will take a few days to go down.It is also possible that not all the hair will be removed on your first time, especially with your armpits (my beauty therapist told me it isn't uncommon).I would say that a week before the wedding would be soon enough, giving your skin time to recover NOTE:Do NOT use Vaseline - it is petroleum based and will actually add to the problem
