Has anybody ever bought a wedding dress online????

  • I have looked online at some places to buy inexpensive dresses.. I am just curious if anybody has ever bought a wedding dress off the internet and how did it turn out. They look real good on the computer but I am scared to go that route. If anybody has ever bought a dress online please tell me your experience with that.

  • Answer:

Yes, *I* have, and other brides I have worked with have. However, there are three things you ABSOLUTELY must do if purchasing this way... First, You must get your accurate measurements from a seamstress and purchase from the largest of these measurements. (You will have it altered to make it fit "perfectly" but it is MUCH easier to take in than to let out, in fact some dresses cannot be let out) Second, check their reputation if you can (BBB in their area, feedback rating if on an auction site like Ebay). Third, You MUST read up on their return and shipping policies... You dont want to purchase a dress by looks and receive it to find the picture made it look better... or to find it has damage or a stain and that youre stuck with it. Do all of your homework and you will be fine.

I haven't bought a wedding gown, but I did buy my bridesmaid dress for my best friends wedding on-line. You just have to make sure that you know your measurments. The drees looked gorgeous on the picture and also on me. Good luck!!

I bought mine online. I was very stressed out about it not fitting, since I couldn't actually try it on. Everything worked out fit. I had to make some little alterations to the dress but thats normal. What I suggest doing is finding the dress you like online and then go to some bridal stores around town and try on dresses in that style that you like so you know what works on your bod. Also get measured by a professional. And ask the company that your buying the dress from if there is room for the dress to be taken out at all if the dress happens to be too small. I thought all dresses could be taken out a little bit - but apparently thats not true. Good luck!

I haven't but I don't suggest it. I've read way too many urban legend books about people dying in their clothes and the next person that puts it on gets horrible consequences and stuff. But hey....everyone's different. Experince is the best teacher. Try it.

Just get it over with already!!

No. It's too important to try all different styles and sizes in stores.

there are many many things you can buy for your wedding online- shoes, favors, decorations, veils etc... Your wedding dress shouldn't be one of them. You should be able to try it on and feel what it's like, things look differently online versus in front of you and things look different on the hanger versus on you. If the only reason you're doing it online is the price, then there are other options to save money on the dress. -You can ask to buy the samples in the store so you don't order it, just get the one you try on (i did this and got a 500$ dress for 100$) the bridal salon will fix up any missing buttons etc. -buy a non bridal white dress (not all bridal dresses have to be from a bridal salon) -check consignment shops for 'the dress' these will be marked down from their original retail price -you could get a gown that your mother/sister/cousin wore and take it to a seamstress to change it up a little bit to match your personality more. good luck finding it! God Bless:)

Just remember that when you see a dress in a picture, it does not necessarily look that good in person. And from experience trying dresses on, some of the dresses I thought would look the best on me looked horrible on while some dresses I did not think would look good looked wonderful. Whatever you do, don't buy from those ebay sellers from china because there are so many horror stories about the cheap quality of those dresses and they don't look like the picture.

I have bought two online. I bought a Maggie Sottero dress that was $1,299.00 on Ebay for $222.00. The dress was new with tags. It was BEAUTIFUL...I mean stunning. Not a thing wrong with it at all. Lakhouse Bridal on Ebay. I bought a second, less formal dress also from another seller. An Oleg Cassini gown that came from David's Bridal. I had seen it at David's and liked it but I thought that $1000.00 was to much to spend on a second dress to run around the reception in. I found it on Ebay for $300.00. The woman who bought it simply did not like the color once she got it home and in real lighting. She sent me the receipt from David's and all. Just make sure it is a reputable seller. Read the small/fine print about shipping costs and return policy if there is something wrong. And most of all MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE, make sure it's gonna fit you close enough that it can be altered to fit perfectly.

My sister-in-law bought her dress on line and loved it. What she did was went to stores and found the dress she loved. Wrote down all of the info and found the exact dress online. If you buy it off ebay check the person's feedback. If you buy it from a store I'm sure they have feedback as well. I think its a great way and probably pretty safe way to save money. My advice is to buy it early to be on the safe side if something should go wrong.
