  • I want to be a wedding planner. To all those wedding planners out there, how did you become one? I am going to get a degree in either PR or Events Management- either of those preferable? Is there anything outside of work I can do? Any books you recommend? x

Best thing to do is find the good planners in your area. Check out theknot.com, weddingwire.com. Make a list and email them or call them asking to see if they are looking for assistants for the events that they are doing. Go out on a few jobs with them and get to know what's involved with wedding planning. It's not so much the education of it, it's more of the actual practice of it. It's half psychologist, a quarter crisis manager, and a quarter planner:) Look up local chapters of the international events society in your area ISES and other industry groups. These will be great places to start and network with professionals who can all help you get your business and clients started.
