Good accent colors for light purple?

How do you pick wedding color schemes? Purple vs. Blue and accent colors?

  • I'm having a summer wedding (June 2013), and I'm having trouble deciding how to pick my color scheme. I've been to multiple websites, but they don't seem to help. I'm thinking periwinkle, cornflower blue, maybe a brighter blue, and possibly some light purples as options. I don't know what accent colors go well with any of those, though. Does anyone know of websites where I can see the contrast of these colors/accent colors? I feel so lost in this process.

Well, David's Bridal website lets you play around and see how different colors look next to each other....even if you aren't buying dresses from there, they can't stop you from playing around on the website. Another option would be to go down to the hardware store and get paint swatches (those little sticks with four or five different colors in the same family on them) and mix them together and see what you like best. My fiance and I picked our wedding colors by just knowing what colors we liked, and thanks to our colors being very large parts of some of our hobbies, we already knew how they looked together

Back in my day, brides chose their favorite color. No one cared what the season was and no one stressed over colors. I got married in September and my wedding color was pink, because it's my favorite color. I would suggest that you start from scratch. Without thinking about the season, pick 1 or 2 colors that you really like. You don't have to have accent colors, white or ivory goes with most everything. So does black and some shades of brown. Don't stress over it. If you only pick one color, that's ok. My sister had varying shades of the same color. I've even seen bridesmaids wearing different colors in the same palette (all pastels or jewel tones.) My uncle's wife had a black & white wedding and all her bridesmaids wore white.

Most people pick their favorite color.....then seasonal-ize it. That means if you like the color blue.. in spring it would be pastel blue, summer would be more cornflower color, fall would be royal blue and winter a midnight or jewel tone blue. I found the easiest way to pick colors and then pick accent colors is to go to the paint department at someplace like Home Depot. You can take paint samples and mix and match. We did this for my daughters wedding....then we matched a "paint" sample to the bridesmaid dress and was able to carry that with us when we were looking or other things, such as flowers etc.....

At more than one year away, you absolutely do not need to be thinking of this.
