Why are most wedding dresses strapless and sleeveless?

  • I like the show Say Yes To The Dress and I've noticed most of the dresses are strapless and sleeveless, even in the plus sized edition. Honestly, I don't think strapless or sleeveless dresses look good on women with big arms. Why aren't their more options for dresses with sleeves, for both sizes of women? I thought Kate Middleton's wedding dress was great and it had sleeves.

    Strapless is the current fashion trend. Its harder right now because of that to find dresses that are not strapless or sleeveless. Really only about 10% of brides (if that many) can pull off a strapless gown and have it look good. Any dress though can have sleeves added to it. My dress was originally strapless but I had sleeves added to it. My husband is Muslim and the wedding was in a Mosque where sleeveless/strapless is frowned upon and in many cases not allowed. Even without that I had planned to add sleeves or look for a gown that had them. I know what doesn't look good on me. I lost 100lbs but I still couldn't pull that off. There are dresses out there with sleeves the style you need to look for is a "modest" gown.

I guess it's because women feel more elegant and pretty with sleeveless wedding dresses. And some women like sleeveless and some don't. And I agree with you, there should be more dresses with sleeves! I think it'll make us more confident.(:

That's what I keep asking. There are very few women who look good in strapless. If more brides would recognize how they really look and demand a dress more flattering then maybe the designers would start to listen.

I guess that the sleeveless/strapless dresses are "in" and I agree, Kate Middleton's dress was gorgeous even with sleeves.

I loved her dress also. It is a style that looks attractive on women of any weight and age. I too wonder about the strapless trend, as it seems more for a night out than a wedding, but designers need to keep changing styles, females want to be trendy, and strapless is the moda of the moment. ......................................…

I thikn becuase your wedding dress is supposed to be one of a kind and special, and for most people, that's the only time inther lives where they'll wear a strapless gown.

I don't know, I don't think they look that great. You can find dresses with sleeves that look really classy but you have to know where to look.
