What are nuptial vows?

What is the minister saying before vows?

  • at your wedding? the only guy that wasnt booked the day of our wedding said that he usually says a scripture in the bible or something..... he said he really likes to do that and some people dont like it but he would rather say something before we start the vows.(im not opposed to it at all) BUT i was wondering, what is yours saying? as soon as you get up there is he automatically going to start your vows or is he going to say something about love and marriage?? and are you meeting with him before? our is making us meet with him 3 times before the big day! thanks!

  • Answer:

Most ceremonies, whether they are religious or not, include more than just the vows. The officiant or family members can read verses from the bible, love poems, wise words, etc, and say prayers. Check out theknot.com for different wedding rituals and readings. My dad's uncle who is a lutheran minister is performing our ceremony, and he lives out of the area, so probably the first time we will meet with him is the rehearsal! However, we'll be deciding on the format of the ceremony and what is included over the phone.
