What flowers are in season in August for a wedding in Italy?

My mother wants to use silk flowers at my wedding, but I'm worried it will look cheap. What do you think? ?

  • She wants to use fake flowers for everything...my bouquet, bouttenieres, corsages. My wedding is in March and the flowers I picked (daisies, tulips, clover) are in season. How much would we save using silk flowers? I'm really worried about what my MIL will think if I hand her a fake corsage!

  • Answer:

some silk flowers can look fabulous, and many cost more than fresh flowers. We used silk cala lillies at my son's reception, for the centerpieces and over the archway, etc..but the bouquet and corsages, etc, were real. Saved a lot on the calas, but I don't know what you would save on tulips.

I think, yuck! I know, here come the thumbs down. Some people will tell you that the "high quality" fakes look just as good as real. But unless you are allergic to flowers, I cannot justify fakes. Isnt the whole point of a flower that its real? The whole idea of fake flowers is beyond me. I have simple taste. If it means buying less flowers so that you can have real ones, so be it. Less real flowers is much better than a cartload of fakes in my book. Price is not the deciding factor for me. Real is the only way to go, and I will buy as much real as my budget allows.

I used silk flowers for my wedding, because we were having two receptions. I wish now I had used real flowers. First off, I didn't really know that much about artificial flowers, and the ones I chose weren't that great, and I didn't get enough to make everything look really good. Second, you don't have to spend a fortune. You can keep things simple and still have them be beautiful. That is one thing I would definitely change about how I did my wedding. Your mom probably wants to do it so it can be done ahead of time, right, and to save money? Shop around a bit and find a florist that can do everything for you and deliver everything when you need it. You don't want to be making boutonnieres 20 minutes before the ceremony.

Real Life has No Soundtrack

Fake flowers have come a long way. They are beautiful. Take a look at them. However, I don't think they are necessarily cheaper than fresh. You might want to get a silk flower AND a fresh flower bouquet so that after the fresh ones die, you will still have a beautiful silk arrangement. Nothing can match the smell of real flowers-- but you don't have to get all one or the other. You can get some of each if you like.

It depends on the quality of the fake flowers. See them first and then make your mind up. They may actually be cheaper, but if they're not, I don't see the point in not having real ones.

silk flowers can look nice

lost one

There are some fake/silk flowers that are beautiful and stunning. You won't even be able to tell that they're not real. You need to go to a specialty store and shop around. In some instances you won't save money going with silk flowers...but you will always be able to keep the bouquet as a keepsake, which is one advantage. I have silk at my wedding and I liked it. But it is up to you. If you don't find any silk flowers that you like, you might just want to go with real. They are both going to cost you quite a bit of money if you want them to look really nice. Good luck with everything. (I had a March wedding too!)

Good quality silks won't save you much money (if any), but the perk is they aren't going to wilt and you can have them forever and you can assemble everything well in advance of the wedding. I ordered 1 bouquet and 1 corsage from someone on eBay. They arrived and looked like cheap crap - - I'm glad I tested the waters before buying. But I know that good silk flowers can be found and will look great. So just check out the flowers first.

Silk flowers can look really lovely. However, there's nothing like fresh flowers for a wedding! Actually, daisies and tulips won't hold up well over the whole day... (and you won't be handing your MIL the corsage - someone will be designated to pin it on her) Budget may be what gets you to decide. If you are paying, choose what you like. If your mom is paying, she gets her way.

Go look at the silk flowers. My friend was married last summer and used silk, honestly I would never had known--I tried to smell her bouquet when she asked me to hold it. But there are huge differences in quality of silk. Have you tried the website that sells flowers at a discount? Wedding flowers in a box or something...google that, see if they have some of your flowers. Maybe you could mix the silk with natural? You'll have plenty of time to ponder what your FMIL is wondering...try not to worry about her on your day!
