Wedding Flowers - Help?
-
I am totally clueless about flowers. What kind of budget should I plan for, and how far in advance do I need to reserve a florist's services for our wedding day? Some details - Luckily our venue's package includes flower centerpieces. So I still need to hire a florist to do my bouquet, my maid of honor's bouquet, petals for the flower girl, and maybe bouquets for my mom and my fiance's mom? I'm not sure about that. (The wedding party is small, just one maid of honor, no additional bridesmaids) I have very simple taste. I am planning to have the bouquets consist of 100% bronze/orange colored zinnias, or have the zinnias mixed with other simple flowers. This will match our fall colors theme. Our wedding is in October and I heard that zinnias are in season at that time, so hopefully not expensive. I currently live abroad and I won't be able to meet florists in person until August but I am putting together the budget now. So any insight into the budget or other tips would be really useful. Thanks

Answer:
Since you can't meet with a florist in person, your best option is to call or try e-mailing (I assume international calls are expensive!) with a few florists. There are so many variables to flowers that the only way to get a real cost estimate would be to speak with a professional. That being said, with so few arrangements needed, I'd say you're not looking at more than $200, and that's a high estimate since I don't know what zinnias cost! But only four bouquets shouldn't run you too much. Consider boutineers for groom and best man, and corsages for mother of the bride and mother of the groom! If you are a crafty person, you should also look into alternatives to real flowers. I hand made all my bouquets out of beaded flowers. It was just a nice little personal touch! But I know a lot of brides prefer the real thing. Good luck!!

Another flower that is prevalent in October is Chrysanthemums, which have dozens of varieties and colors and look much like the zinnia flowers as well. You will save up to 30% on your florist bill to order flowers in season. Bouquets for the moms is not usual, but wrist or pin on corsages are quite nice. And, they will cost you a heck of a lot less money than a bouquet. I would call the florist and have them reserve your wedding day for a floral delivery and then follow through with the details of which in August, as planned.
