Need Expert to identify a wedding dress designer by description of a dress!!?

  • Last year I found my perfect wedding dress, but a few unexpected financial obstacles put our wedding plans on hold. I had the shop hold the specifics about how I wanted the dress, so I called them to let them know I would be able to put down the deposit in a few months, only to discover the shop has closed! The worst part is, I didn't get the name of the designer, and while I've been trying to track down the owners of the shop, I am having no luck. My question I guess is would anyone be able to identify the designer with my description of the dress (I don't have any pictures unfortunately)? The dress was a full-skirt A-line I believe (don't quite think it was a ball gown but I could be wrong) with about 7 to 8 layers to the skirt. The outside of the dress is organza I believe, or a similar gauzy translucent fabric. The skirt was full of bunches and gatherings (I forget what these are called) and large fabric flowers (not so large or ostentatious that they looked weird they blended in with the skirt) and skinny feather plumes coming out of the flowers. The skirt's train also trailed onto the ground about maybe a foot give or take, behind me. The top of the dress was a fitted corset bodice with (organza?) rusching (not sure how to spell that) from the top hem to the seam where the skirt starts, in a sort of diagonal gathered pattern. The bodice had a lace up back, and was completely free of adornment. I think the dress was a size 6 or 8 and the cost of the dress was supposed to be a little over 1,600.00 after alterations. The alterations I was going to have done to the dress were to have a bustle added, lift the train up until it was only a few inches behind me, and to fix the seams of the bust because it had one of those sort of pointed seams over the breasts and since it seems it was made for a woman with a B cup and I'm a D cup, she was going to have to adjust the seams of the bust because it looked weird. I was also going to have a beaded belt stitched to the waist, which I believe was one of the dress designers belts made to add onto one of the dresses, but I can't be sure. the belt was beaded with crystals and pearls. Before all of the alterations, the dress was about 1,100 to 1,200. I first tried on the dress in summer of 2011, so I believe the dress must have come from a collection either from spring or summer of that year, but it may also be from a 2010 collection, I can't be sure. Can anyone identify this designer? I would really really appreciate it, I would hate to have to start all over again, I don't think I'll find a dress like that again, there is no other way to put it, that was simply my dress. Please only serious and knowledgeable responses. Jokes will be reported, and any lazy guesses or answers that just include a link to the first website off of a "wedding dress" Google search (or similar search) will be ignored. Thank you to any serious answerer, I appreciate your help.

  • Answer:

I know the dress your speaking about but I don't believe there was a particular designer or I don't recall who it was. That dress can be made for less than what you stated including alterations. It's not considered a ballgown but it does have a full skirt. It is a mixture of organza and netting and had a long train. Fitted corset with boning and laced up with no adornment. Your alterations are easy, adding a bustle and making the train a little shorter is nothing for a seamstress. To fix the seams because you are larger on top isn't that difficult either because you can take and shorten the boning that is making it not fit. The beaded belt is also easy to attach to the waist and is easy to find. You can contact me for help if you would like......

Nothing like attaching a couple of "rules" when you're the one looking for help. I believe that your details are too fuzzy, i.e., maybe organza, maybe a size 6, maybe an a-line, etc. for anyone on here to guess at. Your best bet would be to go to a real bridal shop - a big one - not Davids and ask them. They deal with all sorts of gowns all the time. I would suggest you go to one in the same town as the one that closed - someone probably bought their inventory, maybe the did and have it or know of it.
