Could anyone help me with wedding colours?! general guidelines?
-
So i have the venue and the date - progress finally! but before i can talk to florists and work out decoration i need to choose colours and im a bit lost! So the idea is that the colours i choose will be reflected in decoration, flowers and bridesmaids dresses (i think?) do people normally have 2 colours, or 3? im assuming any more than 3 would make it look a bit much? the ceremony is in an open air chapel and at the front it has some planted pink flowers...so i guess the colours need to match them. my fiance really wanted red to be used in the wedding but i havent seen any red flowers that wouldnt clash horribly. its better to keep same colours for chapel and reception right? so i wanted to put the bridesmaids in blue, but the florists i was looking at in cancun don't seem to have many natural blue flowers (they offered to paint/colour some but id rather just go for flowers with a natural colour, its easier) so which colours would be best?! thankyou for helping the wedding newbie =)

Answer:
I had my bridesmaids in a navy blue. I wanted to use hydrangeas, but they wilt quickly, so my family friend (who did the flowers) used a different kind of blue. We were not in Cancun, though. I guess the flowers in Cancun are going to be different than the US. In choosing colors for the wedding, just choose one or two. I used silver as an accent color because the lace on my dress was silver. I chose blue because it is my favorite color. The shade of blue was chosen because, when I went shopping for bridesmaids dresses, that shade was the only one available in the styles of dresses I chose. You don't need to match the planted flowers of the chapel. I do think it is best to keep the same colors for the chapel and reception. Red can go well with pink. Think about Valentine's day decorations; some are red and some are pink. My advice is to chose your favorite color, which I'm guessing is blue. If the florist doesn't have blue flowers and you don't want her to dye them, then go with a white flower and have the ribbon be in a shade of blue.

WHEN is the wedding? Many people chose flowers for the season. Also, many countries reserve blue and/or purple flowers for funerals.
I think you should google Wedding Ideas magazine and have a look at their recent blog explaining why purple is THE colour of the moment - I myself am having violet - and also have a look at some other colour themes If you wanted, you could work the pink in.Pair with green and you will have a fresh, pretty look for spring.Or,you could go with whatever you like, your colours don't need to match the colour of the flowers outside the chapel. So what colours do you like?Work from there really

You can practically use any of your favourite colours. As your wedding is in spring, you could use some typical spring colours such as pink, pastel green, dark green, light blue, ivory... You can use either 2 colour combination or 3, if they are harmonious then 3 wouldn't be too much.
