What do I need to marry my Lithuanian Girlfriend in the UK?

What do I need to marry a british soldier as a German in the UK?

  • Hello, I am getting married next year in the UK and really need help .I am German and my fiance is in the British Army. So maybe here is somebody who already has experience with a multicultural wedding? My question is what do I need in documents? Do I need a passport or is my German identity card enough? Residence Certificate? Birth certificate? Baptismal certificate? Proof of ancestry? Certificate of No Impediment? Unfortunately I haven´t received many information in my registry but they where not sure if we need a civil wedding before, because that is how it works in German and also you need all this papers in Germany to get married. Another question is, is the wedding excepted in Germany? I guess it should be because it is EU, but I need to be sure! Well , I hope somebody might have answers. thanks

  • Answer:

I married my German wife in England and we found it much easier than to marry in Germany. You need to be resident for at least 1 month. You will also have to show:- Passport or identity card. Birth certificate. Baptismal certificate I am not sure ,ask at the registrar office. Yes the wedding will be accepted in Germany. Have a nice wedding
