Why are strapless wedding dresses so popular?

What is the deal with strapless wedding dresses and why do they only carry tiny sizes?

  • sure it may be in fashion but what about those of us that hate strapless dresses what are we supposed to wear!!! not everyone looks good in strapless and as for the stores only carrying tiny sizes they shoud go out onto the street and see that real people are not stick insects and would like to be able to try on a wedding dress too thank you very much. average size today is 12/14/16 i am a comfortable 14 at my thinnest and even them in too scraed to go into a bridal storethey all scare me no dresses with straps or sleves and it doesnt matter anyway because none of them fit me to try on and NO pinning me into a dress doesnt show me what its going to look like and doesnt make me feel pretty anyone else have these issues or similar?

I definitely know where you're coming from. I'm a July bride, and I got engaged about seven months ago. Since the night my hubby to be popped the question I had been researching wedding dresses because I knew the right dress would make my day. I'm about 5'4 and a size 18/20, so I was apprehensive about going into a dress shop. I looked online, specifically on Davids Bridal and Ebay, and came very close to purchasing a dress on Ebay. I went to visit my mom and she dragged me into a "bridal outlet" and while they had a much wider selection for the 'skinny' girls, i found two dresses in my size, and one of them actually ended up being the "one" and perfectly fit me, no alterations needed, even with my height! If you're a girl with a behind and boobs like me, it can be kind of scary, but you never know where you'll find THE dress. And, I'm not a fan of strapless, particularly because I'm a DD girl, but when trying on dresses I found that different dresses seemed to fit differently when it came to that. My dress is strapless and it holds me up good without being uncomfortable or making me nervous about it falling down. There might not be every dress in our size, but it seems to me that our options are starting to open as designers realize that "real women have curves" and they need amazing dresses too!

I feel your pain, the larger you are the harder it gets, I'm a size20/22. my advice, don't go to david's bridal though, the sales consultants are rude and will just tell you're fat. You're beautiful and will find your gown. Many bridal shops carry a 12/14, I only know this b/c that's what they've had me trying on. You will find you gown, keep looking.

You know what: I am so sick of seeing that same old boring strapless boob tube dress that everyone gets these days. Why can't anyone be more original and go for something different. I am getting married this year and decided to have Grecian style straps put across it.

I agree. I wanted a strapped dress for my wedding as I didn`t want to be pulling the dress up all day. I`m also a size 16/18, and almost 6 feet tall, so needed a dress with the right length. Eventually bought one from china on Ebay, hundreds of styles to choose from (lots ith straps or sleeves), and custom made for a perfect fit.

i went to davids bridal and tried on only dresses that are halter style. I am a small size but i also dont look good in strapless and also didnt want to be adjusting my dress all night because of the lack of chest to hold up a strapless. There are not many dresses out there but i would look around and see what you can find.

I agree. I am a size 2 and did not want to wear strapless either. It's not flattering on very many people. It's so overdone these days. All the dresses look the same. There is nothing tackier than watching a bride grab the top of her dress and hike it up all day long. I've been so many weddings the last few years and it seems like they were all wearing the same dress and weren't very flattering. I felt David's Bridal was best for me because I could try on my exact size instead of being pinned into a much larger size.

go to davidsbridal.com they have lots of selections of non strapless dresses and you can add strep to the ones that are strapless. try to wedding game thing. (forgot what its called) you can dress up the people to see what it would look like.

why dont you just lose weight? of course they dont make strapless in the bigger sizes, thats cause the bigger women will 'fall out" of them. either stop complaining get on a diet, or go on line and have your dress specially made.

I DONT CARE

We all have problems! In my case, the dresses are too big. I spent a fortune in alterations. Even everyday clothes, I often dont fit into the smallest size, especially shirts. Its frustrating. Averages are just that - averages. They dont account for the whole spectrum. Thats life.

I know exactly what you mean...I'm a UK size14 too, but even if I was skinnier I wouldn't go for a strapless gown - they're so popular at the moment I think in years to come they'll look really dated, plus who wants to spend their big day worrying about whether their strapless bra is going to stay up or not??! I'm getting married too and have looked at literally hundreds of wedding dresses and not one of them has screamed the "perfect dress" at me... ...I've only looked on the internet though as like you, bridal stores scare me too! Depressing, isn't it??!
