Should I continue to see a therapist and should I go see a psychiatrist?

Ok I'm gonna try to make this short as possible. I have horrible concentration, and I've tried everything possible blah blah etc. I couldn't take it anymore so I recently started seeing a therapist for my concentration. I've seen her 2 times and she recommends that I go see a psychiatrist to see if I have ADHD. She said that I might have ADHD but she thinks my lack of concentration may be due to some depression, anxiety and PTSD ( I witnessed something terrible as a child, I really don't wanna talk about it). She said she thinks I have a mild form of them, but she won't know until she gets to know me some more. Anyways she has been giving me some tips to concentrate and the tips she has given me is stuff that I have already tried. My grades have been suffering, I haven't learned anything, I have no idea whats going on in my classes. I'm so sick of this that I have been really starting not to care about school anymore. Now I don't care if I pass or not, or whether I learn or not. I was going to set up an appointment with the psychiatrist this week, but I just don't care anymore so I decided not to. I decided not to see the therapist anymore because I have just given up and I feel there is no hope for me. My father told me to just finish this semester and see where it goes. Now I can't help but having this feeling of caring. I don't care anymore, but I keep getting this feeling of caring, I know if I don't continue therapy and go see a psychiatrist I will either most likely drop out or I will fail or pass my classes with very low grades and not learn one thing and never find a job and if I do I will get fired because I don't understand one thing and I'll have to work a minimum wage job, then get evicted from my house and live on the streets and die of starvation. Do you think I should go see the psychiatrist or should I just go with the flow? Thank you

I think that you should see the psychiatrist for assessment and any medications they may suggest regardless of whether or not you drop out of college. You should get a deferred exam/study or what ever it is on the grounds of illness but you need the doctor to certify that and maybe that will save your place for next year by which time you may have all the drugs and treatment you need to get back on track. You may regret this later if you don't take action now. Don't give up on life or your hopes for the future or a career. You can get through this and be better again and study and pass exams. You can do anything if you set your mind to it and take the help the medical profession can provide. You sound depressed and you are seeing the situation as very black or white, you can afford to see some grey bits in the middle there and you will feel them better once you get yourself sorted medically I promise.

You should see a psychiatrist. Therapists are not medical doctors, you need to see a real doctor to be properly diagnosed. Therapists should be seen for talk therapy only after you have recieved a proper diagnosis.

Seeing both helps alot. It's hard to find a therapist that actually listens though. At least for me. Probly my own issue. Seeing both a therapist and psychiatrist may help you alot!

Go and see the psychiatrist. Things aren't going to get any better if you don't. Your therapist has already suggested that you should and the reasons she has given you are valid. This could be, the best thing you could for yourself and it could turn your life around. You won't know unless you try. Be good to yourself and give it a chance.
