Does anyone else do this?
-
I associate everything with numbers, colors, and shapes. Every object, person, and place immediately brings a number, a color, and/or a shape to my mind. Mostly it's the numbers 2 - 5 and 7. Sometimes 12. The colors are very specific, like not just blue or orange, but cerulean or vermillion. The shapes are just circle, square, triangle, oval, rectangle. I'm not exceptionally good at math or painting or drawing. Most of the time the numbers, colors, and shapes have nothing to do with the person/place/thing. Examples: a paper lunch bag is 7, mustard yellow. The concept of "freedom" is 8, forest green, rectangle. A red rose is 5, deep purple. A typical lamp shade is 5, grey. Los Angeles is 8, red, square. I'm not a super organized, categorizing person really. I'm 17, and I remember doing this since I was little. I remember back then, finding something cool on the ground was 3, clear blue with sparkles, oval. DOES ANYONE ELSE DO THIS???

Answer:
Sounds exactly like synesthesia. Look it up on wikipedia. I definitely don't do anything like that to that extent, but I think that everyone has some unusual associations (I associate English with red; History with purple). But yeah, I definitely have never made associations as crazy as yours, and I'm pretty sure most other people haven't either. That sounds awesome. Does it bother you or interfere with your life?

Seems like a bad case of OCD. Train yourself to stop doing that. You'll drive yourself to insanity.. Trust me you don't have a sixth sense, you're not gonna crack a code and youre not gonna save the world from alien invaders!

If your telling the truth you may be a natural genius. Or you may be criminally insane >:) You decide.

its just the way your brain has learned to function.. most people learn in a different way.. but at age 17. your brain is still developing yet most of it is already happened.. if you want to break out of that habbit you need to do it now.. however you might have gained a benifit from having the thought process like you do.. there might be something you can do really well in your head but you dont know that others dont have the ability to do that because you dont know that it is not normal.. you might be able to remember numbers really well because the seem to have more value or meaning to you. you might be able to remember words or places much better than others because there is something you always relate these things to.
