Is it true that antidepressants such as clomipramine usage can cause infertifity?

Can antidepressants cause high cholesterol levels?

  • I have been taking antidepressants for a few years now and was taking 225mg of Effexor, This medication made me put on a lot of weight in a short period of time. I no longer take Effexor but now take 10mg Escitalopram and 50mg Seroquel. I just had a full blood check and was very surprised to here that my cholesterol level was high as I consider myself to eat healthily. I was wanting to find out if antidepressants can cause this change in cholesterol levels?

  • Answer:

the fact that you put on a lot of weight in a short period of time is why your cholesterol levels are elevated. It takes up to six months to change cholesterol levels. So if it hasn't been that long since you gained the weight, and you haven't lost the weight, then that is why your cholesterol is up. No the effexor didn't cause the elevation directly, it was your over eating that did that.
