Can I purposely induce memory loss?

Tylenol PM and Memory Loss - Will my memory improve now that I am off the medication?

• I have been taking Tylenol PM for several years now to help me sleep. I have recently noticed a short term memory problem and it is getting worse and worse. I feel like I am getting dementia. I was reading that Tylenol PM can cause short term memory loss. I just stopped taking it and am wondering if short term memory loss is a permanent side affect or if my memory will improve now that I am off of the medication. Can anybody share their experiences? I have also had problems with lack of focus, irritability, and depression which I also read is a side effect. I am really worried and can't believe I took Tylenol PM for all that time. I guess I just wanted a good night's sleep. BTW, I am only 32 years old and am very active and healthy. I just want to be back to my normal self and I want my short term memory back. If anybody has any additional information or personal experiences I would love to hear them. I also did a search online for as much information as possible and will be making a doctor's appt as well.   most of the PM sleep meds have an antihystamine like benadryl which is known to effect memory. I think once your off it will improve. If you still have trouble sleeping at night I highly recommend melatonin it's the all natural OTC hormone that helps us sleep naturally, 3-6mg 1 hour before bed. PM sleep meds interfere with your REM sleep which is why the problem with short term memory. How do I know about this? My wife is a Physical Therapist with pharm experience and everyone in my family has some sleep challenges so I've personally done alot of research on the subject
