What are some creative ideas for a 13 year old birthday party?!?!?!?!?

Have a coming-of-age ceremony. I gave one for my daughter when she turned 13. It was a time for her to envision what she wanted our of her adulthood, both the lifestyle, but more importantly what type of person she wanted to group up to be. It was a time of giving her more privileges AND more responsibility (because they come hand-in-hand when you grow up). We had round-table sharing of what it meant to us to be a woman, what we thought made a woman an admirable woman. Everyone had a gift for her, and each gift was symbolical of mature femininity, and was given with an explanation from the giver ... for instance, one person gave my daughter a jewelry box with an Egyptian eye inlaid into the lid ("for clarity of sight"), another gave a necklace with shiny black hematite beads (for "grounding/realism") and light pink rose quartz beads (for "friendship and love"), another gave a "bouquet" of peacock feathers for beauty and grace ... etc. Everyone also gave her a length of ribbon (provided by mom) on which they had written a wish for her future, one by one draping the ribbon over her neck and saying what they hoped for her. We cut a small piece of hair off her head and burned it in the fireplace to represent leaving her childhood behind. She also got a bankbook for a savings account, with a check to start off her savings. Another entrance into adulthood. My daughter is now 30. Occasionally, she still talks back to that party. It was a time of learning, a time of celebration. She still has many of the items from her party. Traditionally, it is the Aunt who gives the party. With the mother's participation. It's not so hard to talk your elders into it ... this helps you grow up, gets you thinking about what it means to grow up and what type of person YOU want to be ... and most parents encourage that thinking in their children.
