Which ATV should I buy?

Why do people buy belt drive, cvt clutch 4x4 ATV's?

  • I don't understand why anybody would buy a 4x4 ATV with a belt drive, cvt clutch drive? These atv's don't work, the rubber belt slips and smokes everytime they use the atv in rough riding and stalling conditions, and when the belt gets wet from riding thru water, the belt slips. Im getting tired of towing these belt drives home with my gear drive atv. I can't understand why these "belt smokers" continue to sell good when they don't work?

  • Answer:

While I have had to pull a few myself, I've had to pull an equal number of chain and shaft drive models also. I put about 5000 miles on my Polaris 500 H.O. and never had a belt issue. They work fine given their design parameters. I have found them to work best in deep mountain snow with steep climbs or deep nasty mud simply because there is no loss of time/speed/power when hunting for the proper "gear". They don't lend themselves to high speed cornering and jumping though cause they tend to be heavy/4x4/high center of gravity. It's too bad you wouldn't mention the brand you ride though, tells me allot about you.

I've never had a problem with my 660 Grizzly, and I use it like a tractor.
