How do I turn off connection suggestions?

My 02 RC51 won't turn over strong enough to start bike?

  • 02 RC51 with power commander 25k miles bought new. it won't start even if trying to start with my truck battery after a 40 minute drive and 14v from the truck alternator. i've isolated the starter relay out of the circuit and tried applying power directly to the stater, still won't turn over strong. it turns weak. i went through the factory service manual check procedures and clean the internals of the starter motor with contact cleaner to clean out the carbon residue. it still turns over weak. i haven't been through any other checks with the computer or power commander since i don't think they should be an issue with why the motor won't turn over strong. did a final continuity check once i put the starter back in. i checked it from the starter cable connection point to ground and it's .01 ohms, basically a short, which is correct. i'm really confused as to what the problem is. i last rode it 2 months ago and it was fine. i started it a month ago and it was fine, but didn't ride it. only thing i did was switch out the stock exhaust back to my race cans and now it won't start. i have another issue about why my computer won't access the power commander to remap it, but that's another issue. the bike should still turn over strong. any suggestions? i'm really stuck and confused with this. the characteristics of it turning over with a good 2 year old stock battery and another car battery in parallel with the bike battery is the same as if i just connect the starter to my truck batter as described above either way, it turns over weak, but still should have a fast strong turn over. help.

  • Answer:

Sounds to me like your starter is is just worn out, yes I know you cleaned it and it looks alright. If you have access to one of those clamp-on inductive amp meters you could check its current draw, I'd wager its pretty high. Sadly, there is no good readily available way to load test the starter, so, you will probably end up replacing it $$$ and hope thats the trick.
