Would a motorized bike be as street legal as a regular BIKE?

Is it possible to make my dirt bike street legal?

  • ok, so i have a 2005 (i think...) baja dr125... i am wondering if it is possible to convert it to an on road off road bike... ive just gotten my motorcycle permit and am looking for something to get around so if i could just use my dirt bike after a little tinkering it would be awesome! so i am in massachusetts and i have not registered my bike, yet...

  • Answer:

That year 2005 and massachusetts implies extremely unlikely. A much older dirt cycle from 1960 or early 1970s might fit into the title and inspection laws to be made street legal- but after 1980 or so the required emissions testing to be on file with DOT means if it wasn't a street legal model at2005 it can't practically be made one legally now in most of Eastern US with pollution problems- and that includes massachusetts. Doubtfull you could register and get a plate on it unless you've got some paperwork like a title that has it classed as a street model-- then you've taken care of the legal hassles and equipment like lights is relatively easy. .

Not possible. Even if you added all of the required street equipment, the DOT has never approved it as a street-legal vehicle, so you would not be able to get a plate or insurance.

There are kits you can buy that will allow you to make it street legal, but in some states they do not allow it, sorry that's all I know about it.
